Kindergarten Diagnostic Instrument- Second Edition Author: Daniel C. Miller, Ph.D. Age Range: 4-6 years old Administration Time: approximately 35 minutes Diagnostic and prescriptive assessment tool for early identification of pre-academic skills Determines a child’s strengths and weaknesses across 13 developmental readiness tests

Developmental Skills Assessed Concept Mastery- knowledge of basic kindergarten concepts Form/Letter Identification- knowledge of shape names and letter identification skills General Information- ability to recall basic information from memory Gross Motor- large muscle coordination Memory for Sentences- short-term auditory memory Number Skills- knowledge of basic math skills Phonemic Awareness- phonemic awareness skills Verbal Associations- language-based reasoning skills Visual-Motor Integration- eye-hand coordination, drawing ability, & visual spatial skills Visual Discrimination- visual discrimination skills Visual Memory- visual memory skills Vocabulary- knowledge of word meanings

How to prepare your child? Shapes (identifying/drawing) Letters (identifying/writing) First and Last Name (proper formation of letters) Numbers (identifying/writing) Gross Motor Skills (balance, bounce a ball, hop, skip, etc.) Fine Motor Skills (cutting, drawing lines/shapes, buttons, etc.) Phonemic Awareness (rhyming words, beginning sounds)

How do I sign up? Go to Signup.com link (given out at the end of today’s session), chose a time slot, and pay $15 testing fee. Time slots are 45 minutes. All students, even those in preschool at Christ the King, need to be signed up. If your student attends Christ the King, you do not need to come to the testing. Other parents are asked to wait in the Father Jones Room during testing.

What to expect on testing days? Check-in at the school office. Walk down to the church basement to sign in and drop your child off. Parents should wait in the Father Jones Room while students rotate around to 5 stations. Teachers will walk students back to the Father Jones room when testing is complete. After all testing is completed and scored, you will receive a phone call to set up a meeting about additional testing or an email with the testing results.
