A Trail Guide for Fourth Grade at Norton Elementary

3 Fourth Grade Schedule

4 Tools for the Trail 1. Accordion file should go home nightly and come to school daily 2. Students write in agenda daily 3. Healthy snack and a water bottle

5 Complete Nightly Work Fourth graders have homework almost every night. Homework will consist of: Math homework Reading four nights per week Other assignments as needed

6 Fourth Grade ELA Read 30 minutes at least four nights a week with your child to: Build stamina Improve writing skills Broaden vocabulary Please encourage your child to read chapter books: Across genres On or above grade level Fourth grade writing is intentionally structured and targeted to nurture 21st Century writing requirements while fostering a love of the writer’s craft!

8 Fourth Grade Math Quick recall of multiplication facts is crucial to math success including: Long division Simplifying fractions Converting measurements “Flipped” videos and games are available on the Math Links faculty website. Many new concepts are introduced and mastery of these concepts is the expectation. Financial literacy

9 Fourth Grade Science Lab on Fridays (pull back and tie long hair, wear closed toed shoes) All edible labs will be in the classroom and not in the science lab. Following directions the first time is very important during labs and experiments. Integration of technology using STEMscopes weekly Sign Up genius for supplies will be sent out throughout the year.

10 Shoot for the STAAR Testing
Please be aware of these dates when making appointments. November 7th, 8th, 9th week benchmarks January 23rd- STAAR writing simulation February 20th – STAAR math simulation February 21st – STAAR reading simulation Fourth graders take 3 STAAR tests. State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness Writing– April 10th Math– May 14th Reading – May 15th

11 Keep In Touch If your child will be absent, please his/her teachers. Your child will have one day for each excused absence to complete missed work. Please turn in a note to the office within 3 days of your child’s absence. If there is a change in dismissal plans during the school day, please contact the office.

12 Stay Connected Wednesday Folders contain communication from school and completed graded work for you to keep. Please return folder and any signed forms the next day. Fourth Grade Newsletters are ed weekly. Stay up to date with your child’s grades on Skyward Family Access

13 Parent Conferences Parent conferences will be held on October 23rd. We will send out a pre-conference form and an invitation to Sign-Up Genius to schedule your conference.
