CAREERS AND CAREER CHOICES Recruitment Procedures

Recruitment Procedures: Introduction Recruitment procedures refers to processes that employers follow when they want to find a suitable employee. It is important to acquaint yourself with these processes that people go through before they are offered a position in a company Most jobs are advertised in the press or on the Internet, but advertising is just one step of the process. A lot of preparation also goes on before the advertisement is released to the public.

Recruitment Process Identifying a job need in the company - There must be a need to employ another person. - In most cases, the reason is that the existing staff is overwhelmed or lack a specific skill or a completely new position is proposed. - It should be really necessary for a company to hire another person. Compiling a job description - The company through its human resources department clearly defines the duties involved in the new position - Some staff who had been carrying an extra load may relinquish the extra load. - The company should be satisfied that the new person will have his or her full load. - The person’s skills are important at this point Advertising the position - An advertisement is sent out through print media and Internet sites

Recruitment Procedures (Cont.) Short-listing applicants - Usually a number of people are interested and will sent in their applications, including those who want to try their luck. - The application are sent to the correct department in the company and they are sifted. - Only those who mean the minimum requirements are short listed - Background checks are done before people are invited for interviews Interviewing applicants - Short-listed candidates are invited to attend an interview - The panel of interviewers are interested in testing the skills that the person claims to have as well as other personality traits - Here the candidates get to know the complete requirements of the job
