What is a rain forest? A rain forest is a place that has 50% of all the plants and animals in the world. It’s a hot, humid, and rainy place. There are native people that live in the rainforest.
Location of Rain Forests Rainforests are located in Central America, Africa, Southern Mexico, Australia, South America, and the islands in Asia. They are all located around the equator.
Emergent Layer Lots of animals live in the emergent layer like the Harpy eagle, sloth and spider monkeys.
Canopy The canopy layer is under the emergent layer. There are toucans flying wild. Anteaters, sloths, monkeys, butterflies, and snakes live in the canopy.
Understory Snakes slither up and down trees all day. Parrots fly wild around the understory. Lizards climb trees.
Forest Floor The forest floor has lots of bugs and animals like tapirs, jaguars and butterflies. The forest floor is amazing.
DEFORESTATION People destroy millions of acres a day for roads, grazing cattle, mining, and rice fields.
