THE RAIN FOREST BY TARA AND CATYA

What is a rain forest? A rainforest is just what its name sounds like -a forest that gets rain almost every day. It is a piece of land and a place where animals live. All tropical rainforest are hot and wet, which helps plants grow.

Location of Rain Forests Rain forests are located in Asia, Africa, Australia,North America and South America. All rain forests are located around the equator.

Emergent Layer Some of these trees grow over 200 feet tall. Parrots and butterflies live in the emergent layer. This layer grows above the floor, understory, and the canopy.

Canopy Layer In the canopy layer there are many different kinds of animals like toucans, snakes, iguanas, and spiders. The canopy receives most of the sunlight and rain This layer shades everything under it like an umbrella.

Understory Layer Lizards, katydids, and porcupines live in the understory. Very little sunlight reaches the ferns and other plants in the understory. Also, there are trees, bushes, and plants.

Forest Floor Jaguars, ants, and grasshoppers live on the forest floor. The forest floor is very dark and steamy. Also the floor is so dark that jaguars can camouflage their bodies.

The Cat Family

Deforestation When trees are cut down there is less oxygen. People cut down trees because they need to make room for cows to graze. They chop down the trees to make roads, farms, and ranches

People of the Rain Forest People use large leaves as umbrellas. Some people from the rainforest paint themselves during ceremonies. They only use what they need to save the rainforests.

Conclusion In conclusion we learned many things about the rainforest like plants, deforestation, animals, and, people.
