It is the oldest public school in Olsztyn. Children have learnt here since June The school unites tradition and modern technology. It is a place where children gain knowledge about the surrounding world; shape their characters; meet other people and discover the importance of social rules. Our main goal is to teach our pupils crucial moral values, responsibility, tolerance and curiosity. We encourage students to be kind, creative, open-minded, honest and ambitious.

Iwona Jasińska, M. A. Halina Kotlińska, M. A. Anna Kotyńska-Buryła, M. A. Headteacher Deputy Headteacher Deputy Headteacher TEACHING STAFF PARENTS BOARD STUDENTS BOARD COUNCIL OF THE SCHOOL The school governing bodies cooperate in all matters concerning the schools structure and organization. They can make decissions within the limiits of their competences.

We have had swimming classes for more than 40 years. There are numerous extracurricular clubs to choose from. Children can develop their artistic interests, learn foreign languages, do drama and sport.

The youngest pupils spend both lessons and breaks on the second floor. Their classrooms are well equipped e.g. an interactive whiteboard, projectors and various pedagogical aids. In the hall children have a special corner where they can spend breaks- it is a no running zone. There are two ICT classrooms and a library with interesting books as well as free Internet access. There are also two day rooms where childern play and learn before and after their lessons.

We enable childrens harmonious development as we provide pedagogical and psychological help. Children can participate in therapeutic and sociotherapeutic classes or in lessons with a speech therapist.

Everyone can have a two course lunch in a school canteen. We care about childrens health. Our students learn about a well-balanced diet and personal hygiene. Children drink milk three times a week and eat fruit and vegetables as a part of a national programme.

We encourage everyone to do sports and lead an active life. We care about childrens posture, dexterity and emotional well-being.

Children start learning English at the age of six/seven. At first they learn basic words, nursery rhymes and sing English songs. As they grow older they practice four language skills: speaking, reading, writing and listening. We encourage them to communicate in English in class, they also write to pen friends and participate in European projects. Pupils have two English lessons per week in grades 1,2,3 and 6. In grades 4 and 5 they have three hours of English per week. English lessons are not only educational but also a great fun for them. There are also extracurricular clubs for children who want to learn German as a second foreign language. What is more, our students can learn German in a day room waiting for their parents.

Our pupils win many prizes and cups. We had the biggest number of students who won subject competitions in our region (voivodship) in school years 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 Pupils win numerous sports competitions and championships, especially in swimming and running. Pupils participate in The Oddysey of the Mind programme. They have been to the World Finals organised in the USA twice. The teams were very successful, they were 9th in 2007 and 7th in 2009.

The school participates in a Comenius programme Lifelong Learning Programme. The previous Art project was called Pictures of Europe. In 2010 we strated our third project with schools from Norway and England. It is a Science project called Four reasons to explore the seasons. We take parts in other programmes financed by the European Union. We organised extracurricular classes as a part of a project called Creative Saturday Mornings. Our teachers improve their qualifications thanks to a programme called English Language Teaching Methodology For Non Native English Language Teachers. In September 2010 we started participating in the E-twinning programme. Children create different materials and upload them on TwinSpace e.g. Power Point Presentations, blogs, clips. Thanks to this program children can communicate in English with their peers from the EU. It is an excellent opportunity to learn about geography, culture and the life of other Europeans. Our students love The Oddysey of the Mind. This programme envolves creative thinking, using imaginatation, doing drama and solving difficult mathematical and lingiustic riddles.

Our students care about the environment. We sort rubbish, save energy and are aware of all environmental problems of our globe and climate. Children take part in numerous eco-projects and exchange ideas with eco-friendly students from Norway. We are proud to inform you that on June 3 rd 2011 we received the international certificate of an eco-school - the green flag.

There are Roman Gypsies among our pupils. We help them to develop their skills and we adjust our requirements to their individul needs and abilities. We appreciate their culture as well as national identity. Our school participates in government programmes for Roman Gypsies.

We help our students to discover their hidden talents and skills. We want our students to feel comfortable and secure at school. Furthermore, we eliminate violent behaviour, respect childrens rights and explain how to be safe at home, at school and on the streets. We also teach how to surf the Internet wisely.
