Developing of gifted children in Lithuania In our report we are going to review: The approach in developing of gifted children in Lithuania; How do we understand in Lithuania what a child is a gifted child; The basic problems of developing gifted children; The disadvantages of the process of developing gifted children in Lithuania and in Zagare.

Gifted child is an extra-ordinary person Gifted child is a creative personality Gifted child is an original child What a child is a gifted child? Gifted child is a talented child

To dominate, to be persistent and decisive; To be calm and reserved, be interested in ideas not the things; Ability to express feelings and experiences; Tendency to be adventurous; Being more sensitive; What is typical for gifted children?

High level of self respect and independence; Curiosity, preferring complicated things to simple, good social adaptation; Unusual ability to understand various relationships; They like disorder in the beginning, but the final tendency is the seeking of order; Misbehavior and disciplinary problems What is typical for gifted children?

Nowadays educational authorities in Lithuania pay a great attention at the necessity to develop gifted children at schools. Teachers of the primary forms with the help of psychologists who work in all the schools of Lithuania try to recognize such children as early as it is possible. Lithuanian schools offer a great variety of extra- curricular activities and clubs where such children may develop their abilities after lessons.

Nowadays educational authorities in Lithuania pay a great attention at the necessity to develop gifted children at schools. There are specific art, sport schools and centers of self expression in every city and town of Lithuania where the gifted children may be developed individually. Different contests at schools, districts and republic help such children to experience the value of their achievements.

The process of education of gifted children has some disadvantages: Inappropriate tasks; Too little attention is divided to teaching how to learn; Too little attention is divided to children’s personality; Not enough individualization of the tasks; Insufficient attention to the learning environment; Inadequate effectiveness of the assessment; Insufficient attention to the needs of pupils; Incorrectly assigned homework;

To develop a creative personality teachers have: Use art in education not for developing more artists but for helping children to show their creative abilities; Education with the help of art in the primary forms often becomes the basis of all the education (even mathematics and writing); Education by art is the best way to develop the personal creativity.

Creativity is inhibited by: Criticism (teachers must be very careful and just when they criticize) Evaluation (marks are not used for evaluating achievements of the primary schoolchildren in our school) It is very important to say to a child that he is gifted in time and he will prove that he is really gifted.

Thank you for attention
