Respect your classmates and your teacher; be KIND… 2. Work together and help one another... 3. Try hard on difficult tasks… 4. Set goals for yourself... 5. Do your best work… In Language Arts, our focus this school year will be learning and developing our skills as critical thinkers, readers, writers, speakers, and listeners. The development and mastery of these important literary skills not only is important to achieving success in the Language Arts classroom, but is a critical component of success in other school subjects, building strong relationships with others, and attaining a flourishing career as an adult. In Social Studies, we will focus on the themes of location, place, movement, region, and human-environment interaction to understand the emergence, expansion and decline of civilizations from the beginning of human existence to the Age of Exploration. Students will look at the history and culture of various regions including the development of economic, political and social systems. What do I need to bring to class every day? Required One marble composition book for ELA One marble composition book for SS Pencils or pens for writing Highly Recommended Zipper Binder to hold notebooks Zipper pouch to hold small items Colored pencils or markers Glue sticks Scissors What’s the best way to communicate with Ms. Hunter? Ms. Hunter’s Class Room 606 2018-2019 School Year   Grading Scale How can I check my grade for this class? A 90% - 100% Thorough understanding of concepts taught B 80% - 89% Good understanding of concepts taught C 70% - 79% Student should correct and review concepts. D 60% - 69% Student should re-do work and get help. F 59% and below Student should re-do work and get help. Grades will be updated in PowerSchool each week on Sunday evening by 6 pm. Parents and students are encouraged to check the site on a weekly basis to view the most current grades for every class. Students will be trained on gaining access to PowerSchool. What do I do if I am absent? You should always check upon return from an absence about work that you missed. You will have as many days to make up the work as you were out. Also, you may get assignments on Canvas (once we have laptops) that can be done while you’re at home. (Parents- If possible, let me know through Class Dojo when your child will be out so I can hold assignments for him/her.) Thanks!! . Will I have to do homework? Very little for my class. In general, you should read something nightly for about 30 minutes and record your reading either on paper or electronically. (We will start out with paper logs until we get our laptops.) You may read your favorite novels or other library books, newspapers, magazine articles, etc. The reading may be from print sources or online sources. Thank you parents! I’m grateful for the opportunity and privilege of teaching your child. I take that responsibility seriously and will do all I can to help your student grow this year. Please contact me as often as you like to share your wisdom and expertise about your child or to ask questions about his/her progress. Thank you .
