ME Meeting with Excellence Students consistently extend grade level and/or course level expectations. Students independently apply and evaluate Essential Learning Standards and Skills at an advanced level. MS Meeting Standards Students consistently meet grade level and/or course level expectations with very little or no guidance. Students are able to demonstrate and apply Essential Learning Standards and Skills at a proficient level. AS Approaching Standard Students are developing understanding of grade level and/or course level expectations but are in need of additional support. Students are able to demonstrate and apply Essential Learning Standards and Skills with guidance at a progressive level. AC Area of Concern Students are not making adequate progress toward grade level and/or course level expectations. Students do not demonstrate application of Essential Learning Standards and Skills even with additional guidance.

6.01: READING COMPREHENSION - Applies strategies to increase comprehension and communicate information 6.02: VOCABULARY - Applies word analysis to improve vocabulary skills  6.03: GRAMMAR & CONVENTIONS - Edits and revises written work for correct sentence structure and accurate spelling 6.04: WRITTEN EXPRESSION - Composes well-organized, supported and grammatically correct writing for a variety of purposes and audiences in a variety of formats  6.05: RESEARCH - Researches information and shares findings in a variety of formats  6.06: ORAL PRESENTATION - Speaks and listens effectively in a variety of situations

5 Middle School PBIS Standards/ Classroom Behavior Log
6.07: Completes Daily Work and Assignments 6.08: Demonstrates PBIS Classroom Behavioral Expectations Classroom Behavior Log: If a student is asked to sign the behavior log it will be because either of the two standards have not been followed. Once the student signed the behavior log three times I will have a discussion with student and will be calling home to notify parents/guardians.

6 Classroom Expectations Consequences
1. Verbal Warning 2. Sign Behavior Log 3. Teacher/Student Conference 4. Parent Contact (after 3rd time) 5. Dean’s Referral after 3 incidences documented in behavior log. *Removal from class may be immediate for severe behavior. Classroom Expectations Be Safe Keep hands and feet to yourself Keep materials in designated area Use materials for their intended purpose Be Respectful Use appropriate tone of voice Wait for your turn to speak Use positive comments only Ask and receive permission to use the materials of others Use school-appropriate language Follow directions the first time given Say please and thank you Return classroom materials Be Responsible Bring required materials Arrive to class on time Clean up after yourself Keep electronics/cell phones in locker or at home Complete homework on time Ask for a pass and sign out if you need to go to Nurse, Office, Bathroom, Deans’, etc.

7 Suggestions for Parents
Monitor assignment notebooks on a daily basis. Set aside at least minutes a night reading for pleasure. Invest in a public library card. Have as many books, magazines, newspapers available in home as you can. Ask child about what they are reading and have them tell you about it.
