Induction programme General induction and quiz (today) Drop-in introductions to Catalogue, Study Direct and E- journals throughout this term from next week in the library (sign-up sheets will be made available) Sessions for each MA course introducing you to search skills

How many books can I borrow? You may borrow up to 30 items at any one time Books need to be issued at the Service Counter

When is the library open? The normal opening hours are – 21.15, Monday to Friday. The Service Counter is open from – during these times. Staff at the Service Counter are there to help you with any enquiries.

What is My Account? The My Account link is on the top right hand corner of each Library Web page, for example the Library Home page.Library Home page My Account allows you to: – Check which items you currently have on loan and when they are due back – Renew items that you wish to keep longer

Does the Library charge fines? Fines are charged on books that are returned late; please see your Induction Packs for further details

How do I reserve a book? Use the Place reservation link on the catalogue record for the book.catalogue record You can only reserve books that are out on loan to another reader The book will be recalled, and you will be sent an when it is ready to collect

What can I do if I need a book or article that is not held in the Library? Check the University of Sussex catalogue to see if the book you are looking for is held there. Check the BLDS e-journal list and the University of Sussex e- library If an item is also not available at the University of Sussex Library, you can fill out an interlibrary loan request form, available from the counter

What computing facilities are there? We have two kinds of computers in the library. – There is a room of computers you can log-on to using your own username and password – There are other computers which do not require you to log-on and that can be used to search the library catalogue and to access networked and online materials throughout the Library The Library has wireless coverage for laptops

Are there any photocopying and scanning facilities? There are three self-service photocopiers, two situated on the ground floor of the Library and one on the First Floor. Two of these photocopiers allow scanning You need funds in your printing account for copying, but scanning is free You can buy copy credit in the Library. Please see Induction Packs for further information.

Which areas are for quiet study? The reading areas on the ground floor are for quiet study. There is a Group Study room, with weekly sign-up sheet, on ground floor

Where is the Library? The library entrance is on the first floor (turn right at top of stairs leading from reception).

How can I get a book from the Basement? We have basement collections at 9.30 and 2.00 each day Use the Request from basement link on the catalogue record for the bookcatalogue record for the book

How can I find books on gender? The Library is not arranged in a classified or subject order in the way that many are. For this reason, you need to use the catalogue to find books by gender (or any other subject)
