2 The Library basics Entrance on the ground floor – next to the café Covers 5 levels of the main building Once you are fully registered, you have access to the Library Your student ID card is also your Library card You will need your ITS account details to access the eLibrary

3 Opening hours Term time: 08.30 – 23.45 (self service: before 10.00 & after 22.30 weekdays, before 10.00 & after 18.00 weekends) 7 days a week Vacations: 10.00 – 20.00 Monday to Friday 10.00 – 18.00 Saturday and Sunday

4 The Library provides… Books, ebooks, journals, ejournals, online databases, audiovisual material and more Help from your subject librarian and the Library help desk Access to other libraries/Interlibrary loans Postal loan service Extra support for students with a disability Study spaces, PCs, printers and access to the wireless network

5 Search for these via the Library catalogue:Library catalogue You can borrow up to 15 books at a time Most books can be borrowed for 3 weeks at a time, some are 1 week loan, 1 day loan or reference only eBooks are accessible from outside Birkbeck with your ITS username and password You can copy and print whatever the publisher allows from ebooks Books, ebooks and audiovisual material

7 Journals and ejournals Check the Library catalogue for print titlesLibrary catalogue These are on the shelves on level 4 and in store Check the eLibrary for ejournalseLibrary These are accessible from outside Birkbeck with your ITS username and password We have over 25,000 ejournal titles in all subject areas

8 Online databases Over 50 bibliographic databases which enable you to find what has been written in your subject area, also some statistical, newspaper and image databases Go to the Subject Guides on the Library website to see which ones are best for your subject areaSubject Guides There is also a full A-Z list of all databases in the eLibrary - select Databases and Online ResourcesDatabases and Online Resources Accessible from outside Birkbeck with your ITS username and password

9 Help Subject Librarians can help with: literature searching finding information citing your references, and more They run induction sessions, database workshops and other sessions, as well as one to one appointments. Check your subject guide or the contacts page to find out who your subject librarian is.contacts page There is also a help desk in the Library, with telephone and email help as well.
