Presentation transcript:

Understanding Patient Experiences of Cancer Care in Newham On March 2nd, London Cancer and Newham CCG held an engagement event for people to discuss their experiences with cancer care. This document outlines feedback shared at the event and the next steps for Newham CCG. Wait time standards are as documented in ‘Delivering cancer waiting times: a good practice guide’, NHS IMAS You told us what went well, what could be improved and how we could improve GPs should prompt patients to be screened We need better coordinated and proactive hospitals It seemed like my nurse went out of her way to make sure I was special You told us it was important to: Create support networks for patients, with other patients and voluntary sector organisations. When a diagnosis is given, be very clear with patients about what is going to happen next and what to expect. Work with GPs to help improve early diagnosis. Encourage services to work together. Next we will: Conduct an in-depth analysis of what cancer care is available and where gaps in services lie. Present the feedback from the event and analysis findings to the Newham Cancer Task Group. Present an action plan for improving cancer services to Newham CCG primary care committee. Get Involved: Information about opportunities to get involved further with Newham CCG can be found at www.newhamccg.nhs.uk/GetInvolved. To find out more about involvement opportunities with London Cancer contact Frances Sheridan at frances.Sheridan@londoncancer.org or call 020 3108 2340.
