Improving Engagement and Involvement for Health and Care in North Somerset Mary Adams – Patient and Public Engagement Manager

2 What do we mean by engagement?
Building relationships with people who currently use, or may use local NHS services in future with Patients, Carers, Service Users PPGs, Stakeholders, Partners, Providers, VCSE Orgs., Commissioners Communication – a two way information flow Listening Informing Influencing Planning and service redesign Priority setting Decision making

3 What do we mean by ‘involvement’?
On-going relationships with communities and individuals with the aim of shaping health and care planning and commissioning in North Somerset Co-designing plans and co-producing outcomes for patients, service users and carers Often this means working with people lay volunteers on projects, committees and other groups; and Working with communities of interest or place The aim is to work together to design and commission health and care services that take account of what matters most to local people

4 Co- production means… Working together on an equal basis to design services and to come to a decision that works for all Coming together at the earliest opportunity Involving the users, carers and families as wells as partners, and stakeholders VCSE is a very important voice - and can liaise with their communities of interest

6 What are the benefits of engaging for Practice Patient Groups?
Having a voice to influence strategic joint work People and Communities Board Joint Commissioning Committee (Lay Chair) NSCCG Governing Body ( Lay Chair) Having a voice in the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment Document on the North Somerset Council website Chapters are reviewed and updated on a three year cycle Receiving information about opportunities to become involved in: care pathway re-design such as Stroke Services procurement projects such as Children and Young People’s community services, Non Urgent Patient Transport and specialised commissioning projects monitoring and evaluating services that we contract, such as the community health services contract with NSCP

7 How can the NS CCG involve PPGs in ways that are meaningful to them?
What do you need from the CCG to help you to become more involved in the commissioning of health services?

8 How best can PPGs improve the practice patients’ voice in the work of the CCG?
Maintain and continue to build relationships with the CCG Be a point of contact – provide us with up to date contact details and any changes of your membership Help us to get clear messages out to the Practice Population when there are opportunities to influence big decisions such as formal consultations on service proposals Think about how your PPG can help the bigger picture Reducing unnecessary hospital admissions Reducing unnecessary GP visits by using resources for self-care and self-management of long term conditions Become involved in influencing the development of primary care services in North Somerset Sign up to receive the CCG Stakeholder Newsletter on the CCG website Attend CCG stakeholder events Think about joining Healthwatch North Somerset if you haven’t already
