1. Research Students 1. Requirements: (1)Academic Background: 16 years of formal education (2)Age: Born on or after April 2, 1984 (3)Transcript: 7 grades or higher on average out of 10 grades of Grade Point Average (GPA) in certified grade transcript for each academic year from the last university attended 2. Period of Study: ・Non-regular students: 1.5−2 years ・Regular students enrolled in master’s or doctoral courses: necessary period for the completion of the regular program - Extendable upon screening by MEXT - Including 6-month Japanese language training for grantees who require such training

Fields of Study: The field of study applicants majored in their universities or its related field and are able to study or research in Japanese universities, except for the fields such as Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Hygienic and Nursing studies. 1. Research Students <Requirement of transcript for university students> 7 grades or higher on average out of 10 grades of Grade Point Average (GPA) in certified grade transcript for each academic year from the last university attended  ex. In case GPA is graded by a 4.00 scale as follows;    A(4.00): 85%-100%=Excellent    B+(3.50): 80%-84%=Very good B(3.00): 70%-79%=Good … →You are required 2.8 grades (70% of 4.00) or higher of Cumulative GPA (if you are year 4 student in enrolling university, total average GPA from year 1 to Semester 1 of year 4).

1. Research Students The successful candidates of the interview for Research Students are required to contact the Japanese universities they wish to enroll, maximum of 4 universities at the same time by 24 August 2018 (Japan time). The Embassy strongly recommends all candidates for Research Students to research the Japanese universities they wish to enroll and professors they wish to be lectured in advance, because the period you can apply to Japanese universities are shorter than previous years.

Requirements: (1) Academic Background: 12 years of formal education (2) Age: Born between April 2, 1994 and April 1, 2002 (3) Transcript: University students High school students The candidates who fulfill both (a) and (b). (a) A or B of the total examination grade at the examination for the graduation of Upper Secondary Education (National examinations for grade 12) (b) 7 grades or higher on average out of 10 grades of GPA in certified grade transcript for each academic year from the last university attended 7 grades or higher on average out of 10 grades of total scores in the years of grade 10, 11 and Semester 1 of 12

2. Undergraduate, College of Technology, and Specialized Training College Students 1. Requirements: (3) Transcript: The categories which applicants can apply for are different in accordance with the category of the examination for the graduation of Upper Secondary Education (National examinations for grade 12) which applicants passed. Undergraduate, College of Technology, and Specialized Training College Students <Requirement of transcript for high school students> 7 grades or higher on average out of 10 grades of total scores in the years of grade 10, 11 and Semester 1 of 12  ex. In case the scores out of 50 grades in the years of each grade are as follows; Grade 10: 40, Grade 11: 38, Semester 1 of Grade 12: 37 The average of total scores of grade 10, 11 and Semester 1 of 12 are 38.3 out of 50 grades. → This candidate got 7.66 out of 10 grades of total scores (76.6% out of 50 grades) and fulfills the requirement of the transcript.

2. Process of the selection and Schedule

Note for the selection Any scores of other English proficiency tests (such as TOEFL, IELTS) are not required. Even if you pass the selection by the Embassy of Japan in Cambodia, you are also required to pass the final selection by MEXT. The selection by MEXT is a competition against all candidates who passed the same selection in their own countries.

Note for Written Examination Candidates must take all required subjects. The language used in written examinations is English, not Khmer, except for Japanese. Getting high scores in key subjects is required for success in categories of Undergraduate, College of Technology and Specialized Training College.

Note for Written Examination All applicants must take Japanese. Applicants whose majors need Japanese proficiency, such as education of Japanese language, are required high scores in Japanese. In categories of Undergraduate, College of Technology, and Specialized Training College, candidates who got 0 point in Japanese will not be selected. Any applications which candidates submit directly to the Embassy are invalid.

Note for application The Scholarship Office does not receive your application if all the documents are not prepared or you do not meet the requirements. We strongly recommend you to submit in enough time well in advance. If you have not prepared all the necessary documents by the deadline, we do not receive your application.

Note for application You are also required to submit the application form for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. All the documents must be written or translated in English or Japanese (except for Certificate of the result of the examination for the graduation of Upper Secondary Education (National examinations for grade 12)). The copied ones, which have the seal proved by the last university attended or a municipal office, can be used instead of the original one if it is difficult to submit the original one.

Note for application You must use designated application form for each category. The Embassy decides your category according to the application form you submit. You are not allowed to change the category after submitting your application. The Embassy does not return any submitted documents even if you fail written examination, interview or final selection by MEXT.
