We are the ONLY official EducationUSA Advisin g Center in Cyprus which aims to provide information on h igher education in the U.S.A. Supported by the U.S. Embassy Nicosia We are the sole representatives of CIEE that promotes Work and Travel, Internships and Professional Career Training in the United States. Quality Programs, faculty, resources, facilities Choice of Institutions There are over 1,700 institutions that offer graduate study in the U.S. Academic & social environments Entry requirements (degree of difficulty) Degree programs & specializations Value for Money A wide range of tuition & fees and living costs, and financial aid opportunities make studies affordable Diversity Mix of students from all over the world. In 2013/14, 886,052 international students were studying in the U.S.

5 Some Questions to Ask Yourself Before Why do you want to get a master’s or PhD? What are your short-term and long- term professional goals? Will a master’s or PhD help you achieve these goals? What are the benefits of a graduate program to you? What areas within your field are you interested in learning more about? Why? If you are interested in studying something different from your undergraduate degree, why?

7 Language Requirements Test Requirements An English examination is required! TOEFL (out of 120) IELTS (out of 9) Both tests are valid only for 2 years Each academic department will have their ow n requirements Some universities may waive this requireme nt if you graduated from a university in a n English-speaking country

8 Standardized Test Requirements Test Requirements GRE General Test (for all fields except business) Three sections Quantitative (score 130-170) Verbal (score 130-170) Analytical Writing (score 0-6) Paper-delivered or Computer-delivered Score valid for 5 years GRE Subject Tests (May be required by some departments excluding business) Biochemistry, biology, chemistry, literature in English, Mathematics, Physics, Ps ychology (score 200-800) Offered only as a paper-based exam three times per year (Sept., October, April) Score valid for 5 years GMAT Test (Required by most business programs Four sections: Analytical Writing, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, Verbal (20 0-800) Score valid for 5 years. Score report includes 5 GMAT scores

Graduate Admissions Email the department you are interested in Academic department involved in admissions decision Each department has their own requirements/expectations, what they view more important The Graduate Admissions makes the final decision but takes the recommendation of the department into account

12 The Components of a Graduate Application Application Requirements Online Application Form Includes PERSONAL STATEMENT Very important! Test Score Reports Language tests Standardized tests Transcripts Must be translated into English Recommendation Letters Other Supporting Documents CV Research papers, articles Awards Etc. Each department/program will have different admissions requirements!!! - Why do you want to pursue a graduate degree, and why now? - What are your academic and research interests? - Why are you applying to this particular institution and degree program? - What can you contribute to the department or program in terms of your background, abilities, or other special qualities and interests?

19 Summer Work and Travel Goals of Program Don’t see it as just getting a summer job, this opportunity offers much more than that: Offers a cultural experience in the United Stat es. CIEE/employer arranges cultural events Builds intercultural competency/personal transf ormation Improve your English Get work job experience in a multicultural envi ronment Travel in the United States after your job This is a great introduction to the United Stat es, especially for those wishing to pursue a graduate degree in th e United States. Who can apply? Students who study in Cyprus who have one or tw o years of university left Be at least 18 years old Have at least a 7/10 GPA Be able to communicate in English

Cultural experience in the United States and time to t ravel Experience in your field of study Improve English Meet and network with others in your field Who can Apply ? Students who have one more year to graduate or have gr aduated within the past year Students who have located a job in the United States, either paid or unpaid in their field of study Students who can communicate in English
