4 Naviance and the Common App
Naviance is a web-based resource for staff, students, that encourages and supports post high school career and college planning. Common App is where students apply. Naviance is how counselors communicate and monitor students application process as well as send important documents. All juniors have been introduced and active on Naviance Sophomores will be introduced in May 2017

SAT (II) Subject Tests Subject Tests (includes Literature, History, Math, Sciences, Foreign Languages) 2-3 are usually required for more competitive schools Correlate with field of study (Engineering majors need math and physics) Students can take up to 3 SAT Subject tests on same date – 1 hour each Students cannot take both SAT Reasoning and SAT Subject tests on the same day Registration deadline is approximately 1 month before test date Score choice provides students with the ability to pick and choose which scores to submit to their colleges when the time comes

12 Teacher’s Recommendation
Letter of recommendation and/or summary sheet Teachers should be selected based on subject(s) taught and academic performance All of the current Notre Dame faculty submit their recommendations electronically via Naviance, however, if the college/university does not accept the Edoc destination, students must provide an addressed and stamped business envelope for each recommendation request and allow at 3 weeks for completion

Visit and tour colleges Continue work on college essays Take August 2017 SAT Register for October SAT Reasoning, SAT Subject Tests, and/or ACT w/writing September 2017 Register for the November SAT Reasoning or SAT Subject Tests College Financial Aid Workshop Complete all college essays *counselors review all essays again in the Fall Common app completed in Guidance class October 2017 Oct 1 – FAFSA opens, complete FAFSA and CSS Profile ED/EA applicants must submit all transcript and recommendation requests Register for the December SAT Reasoning, SAT Subject Tests, and/or ACT w/writing Submit all SUNY and CUNY applications November 2017 ED/EA applications due Before Thanksgiving-complete all student requests for transcript and recommendation requests for the Counseling office December 2017 Complete all regular decision applications Send all official SAT score reports to each college Interview at selective schools ED/EA decisions mailed to students January 2018 Counselors send out Mid-year report to any Common App schools via Naviance If a school is not an Edoc destination, the student must request their Mid-year via February 2018 Begin to review financial aid information received from colleges Contact schools to confirm all material has been received March 2018 Begin compiling list of college acceptances and scholarships April 2018 College decisions mailed by April 1st Review Financial Aid Award letter/loans May 2018 Accept the best package from your favorite school Deposit for college due May 1st
