6 Multiple Subject Credential
Elementary School Teachers typically teach grades K-8, in a self-contained classroom, or in a core subjects classroom at the middle school level Undergraduate Programs offered at CSUI Bachelor of Arts Child Development English History Liberal Studies Psychology Sociology with options in General, Criminology & Corrections and Counseling & Interviewing We currently offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration – with the Marketing Option (It is possible to complete other options. 7 Single Subject Credential
Single Subject teachers teach in departmentalized classrooms, typically in junior and senior high school settings , with specialization in one or more subjects.

8 Education Specialist Credential
Teach children with mild and moderate disabilities in resource, general education, special day class, clinical settings, in grades K- age 22. Specialization depends on setting where teaching occurs and identified disabilities of students being taught.

Prerequisite Students: Need to complete one or more prerequisite classes Have not completed all credential requirements

21 Prerequisite application
Allows you to enroll at CSUCI Allows you to take prerequisite courses Establishes eligibility for financial aid, if you are otherwise financially eligible

22 Prerequisite criteria overview
Must have GPA of 2.75 or better in last 60 units or 2.67 overall Must have registered for, or taken at least one subtest of CSET (subject matter) Or be almost complete in a CCTC approved Subject Matter program (except for Multiple Subject) Must have registered for or taken CBEST

23 Complete Prerequisite Application - Review
Submit Prerequisite application with $25.00 fee, complete with supporting documents. Must complete and submit University application separately from Credential Program application Complete set of official transcripts from all colleges attended Submit evidence of registration for CSET and CBEST Submit Certificate of Clearance packet, including Livescan, or copy of CA teaching permit/credential. If clearance is not submitted, agree to submit Certificate of Clearance document with Credential application.

Have completed all credential requirements contained within the application Are able to submit a complete application with documents to support that all requirements are met

Must have ALL documents together in one packet for the Credential Office Items 1-12 on following list Application will be reviewed by Credentials staff for completion, returned if incomplete Priority filing period for applicants is Tuesday, March 15, 2005 Final filing period for applications without priority status is Monday, April 18, 2005

26 A COMPLETE APPLICATION IS:
Graduate Application to University 2. Credential Program application + $25.00 fee 3. Evidence of CBEST passage Subject Matter: Documented exam passage or subject matter letter (SPED or Single Subject only)

27 5. U.S. Constitution course or exam
6. Health Clearance—Negative t.b. test/x-ray 7. Certificate of Clearance (background check) 8. Official Transcripts that verify degree and grade point average. Provide one to University Admissions, one to Education Program. 9. Two letters of recommendation

28 10. Field experience – 45 hours required for complete application leading to interview.
11. Writing Sample-Essay-- Grammar, spelling and your ability to communicate in writing are ALL important. Why do you want to be a teacher? What will you contribute to the profession of educating children? What is your perception of teaching diverse learners in California schools? 12. All prerequisite courses complete or in progress New requirement effective Spring 2005: Multiple Subject Candidates must complete EDUC520/521 prior to beginning credential classes

30 Planning Ahead is Essential
Completing credential requirements can take one year or longer, prior to beginning your credential classes Subject matter preparation, and background check are especially time consuming and subject to deadlines.

How to join us as an undergraduate student Submit CSU application - $55.00 application fee Complete 56 transferable units Four basic subjects completed – critical thinking, math, speech and writing General education certification recommended Degree programs coordinated with local colleges

32 Financial Aid Students taking prerequisite and credential courses may be eligible for financial aid. To start the process when submitting a credential application, complete FAFSA CSUCI Financial Aid Office determines eligibility for grants and student loans Credential specific scholarship information (when available) and APLE Loan Repayment application available through Credential Office
