U.S. Beef Exports Update for September 2017 November 2017

Beef Exports Still Trending Higher; Value May Approach 2014 Record $5.27 billion in value for Jan.-Sept. 2017 16% higher than first nine months of 2016; 2% above record pace established in 2014 $616.9 million in value for September 2017 16% higher than last September 926,985 metric tons (2 billion pounds) in volume for Jan.-Sept. 2017 9% higher than same period last year 103,552 metric tons (228 million pounds) in volume for September 2017 2 percent higher than last September (USDA statistics compiled by USMEF; totals include muscle cuts and variety meat)

Top U.S. Beef Export Markets (January-September 2017) Japan – 236,536 metric tons (up 22% compared to 2016) ● value up 30% to $1.45 billion ● chilled beef exports up 42% to 113,347 mt, valued at $833 million (up 45 percent) Mexico – 175,885 mt (1% higher) ● value down 1% to $726.9 million South Korea – 131,774 mt (up 7%) ● value up 20% to $856.9 million ● chilled beef up 85% to 31,648 mt, valued at $283 million (up 92%) Canada – 86,697 mt (up 3%) ● value up 6% to $603.8 million Hong Kong – 83,616 mt (up 12%) ● value up 22% to $551.2 million Taiwan – 32,894 mt (up 9%) ● value up 21% to $297.5 million ● chilled beef up 19% to 13,615 mt valued at $162 million (up 24%) (USDA statistics compiled by USMEF; totals include muscle cuts and variety meat)
