Presentation transcript:

Today’s Warm Up 1. Enter Classroom Quietly and take your seat. 2. Take a piece of loose leaf paper (I have paper on the book shelf at front of the room) and write your name on it. 3. Make a list of 5 classroom rules/procedures that would be helpful in making sure our class runs smoothly and safely. 4. Pick one of your rules. At the bottom of the page explain the importance of this rule.

Welcome to Language Arts Room 1214: Mrs. Salmon

Always show your SPOTS… Show Respect Positive Attitude Own Your Actions Think First Stay Safe

Classroom Procedures What should I do when entering the classroom? Where do I store my device/s? When do I get my workbook? May I sharpen my pencil? When may I use the restroom? When is homework due? What happens if I forget my homework? What happens if I’m absent? What happens if I am unhappy with a grade?

Being Prepared for Class What you need for class: A pencil, Language Arts binder & reading materials. When you enter the classroom: Take your assigned seat. Write homework assignments in your agenda. Begin the warm up. This is not a time to socialize with your friends.

WhAT ABOUT MY DEVICES? Cell Phones: Place your cell phone in the Parking Lot (front of the classroom) upon entering the room. Cell phones should stay in the parking lot until Mrs. Salmon indicates that it’s okay to use them. We will not use devices regularly so, you’re encouraged to leave them in your locker. Ipads/Laptops: These devices should be brought to class only when indicated by Mrs. Salmon. If you bring these devices to class, they should be placed safely under your seat until given direction to use them.

When do I get my workbook? Workbooks should stay on the book shelves by the windows until I give directions to get them. Each table will have an assigned TABLE HELPER. It will be that person’s job to collect the workbooks for each table. Mrs. Salmon will let the table helpers know when it’s time to distribute the workbooks.

WHEN May I sharpen my penciL? At the beginning of class before class begins. OR Once independent work has started. PLEASE DO NOT get up in the middle of class to sharpen your pencil.

Restroom There are two passes for the restroom located at the front of the room (next to the door). One for girls One for boys When you need to use the restroom: Check that the correct pass is hanging on its hook Place the pass on your desk. (2) Return the pass when you return from the bathroom.

Let’s Practice… How many people may use the restroom at once? ONE boy and ONE girl If Jimmy wants to use the restroom and the boys pass is not on the wall, what should he do? Wait until another boy returns from the bathroom and returns the pass to its location.

ASSIGNMENTS (Homework & Classwork) Assignments should be completed on time. If you don’t do your homework, you must complete it during Leopard Time and/or attend working lunch to complete it. Turning work in: Instructions will be on the board when you enter the room. All work that is collected must be turned in to the correct core bin.

What Happens if I’m absent? Before you return to school: Check the Jaguars Team HW Calendar by accessing the Academics link on the MPMS home page. Go to Mrs. Salmon’s link on the Jaguars website and see if she has posted the lesson and handouts that you may have missed. On the day you return to school: Checked the “Missed Work” folder for your class period. They are located to the left of the door as you walk in.

What happens if I’m not happy with my grade? Talk to your teacher/s. We can discuss options for achieving your goals. The most important thing is that you understand the material. I get it!

success Following these procedures will ensure a successful, safe and fun year! Let’s get started!
