8 Your HMS Planner This is where you will write all of your assignments for every class in EVERYDAY!!! If you do not have any homework write the agenda in each class spot. Each teacher will be checking your agendas. Let’s look at it now…

9 Entering the Classroom
As students enter the classroom, they should go straight to their seat and place their book bag under their desk. Each student should remove their notebook and writing utensils. Students should immediately begin on their POD Students may sharpen their pencils during this time. However, no one will be allowed to sharpen their pencil after class begins. During this time the teacher should not be questioned.

10 Problem of the Day (POD)
Beginning of class activity. Everyday you will have a POD. You are to label each entry numerically and include the date. If you were absent write absent & date on that section of the paper when you return. Each entry should be in your composition notebook. I will check these entries unannounced so keep your entries labeled and organized! During the POD you may sharpen your pencil, visit the trash can or student center, and ask the teacher questions. Once we start discussing the POD you will not be allowed out of your desk.

11 Attendance The teacher will take attendance quietly during the POD.
Students should continue to work on their POD response during this time. Students who were absent the day before should bring their excuse to the teacher at this time.

12 Makeup Work It is the student’s responsibility to make up all work.
Home work assignments are left on the board as well as POD topics. Students are responsible for notes/worksheets missed the day of their absence. This can be found in the teacher notebook. The student can meet with the teacher to collect this material before homeroom or after school. Students should always ask their partner what they missed however, it is your responsibility to make sure you are on track. Test should be made up the day the student returns. Once again you need to make the time to make up the test. Every student will have a total of seven days once they are back at school to make up work after that make up work will not be accepted.

13 Homework Cont. When homework is assigned there are two ways it could be graded. The assignment will either be stamped or taken up for a grade. Below you will find the requirements for homework. STAMPED ASSIGNMENTS Assignment must be completed on time, no late assignment accepted. All work must be shown. Assignment must be complete. If you are absent, write absent on the top of your assignment and place it in the late work tray for your class.

14 Tardies The first tardy will be a warning. Subsequent tardies will result in disciplinary action. Once the door is closed you are tardy.

15 Leaving during class In order to leave the classroom for the bathroon you have four passes until December to use. Procedure: If you need to leave you quietly get out of your seat and fill out the folder. Remember once you have filled out all four blocks you are NOT leaving. Look for your class period and find your name. Use the pen and enter the info as follows: Bathroom: Nurse: Another teacher: 4/19 4/19 4/19 2:30 2:30 2:30 B N Chauncey

16 Equipment and Materials for students
Students are not allowed to enter the teacher’s desk, closets, or cabinets without permission. The pencil sharpener can be used during the POD. Have a second pencil in case one breaks. The pencil sharpener will not be used once lecture begins. The computers can be used before and after school with permission. Each student will need a science section in their binder.

17 Teacher’s Desk All of the equipment on the teacher’s desk and the trash can are off limits to students. Students may use the equipment located on the student work station such as a hole puncher, stapler, or tape. Tissue and antibacterial will also be located at the student work station. Students can visit the student work station during the POD however, the assignment is the priority.

18 Dismissal The teacher will dismiss class by the following manner:
Students will be instructed to copy the homework assignment down. Students will then be asked to pick up all paper around their table. Once everything is picked up the teacher will dismiss students by groups.

19 Notes Students will be told when to take notes.
Students should take notes in their notebook or graphic organizer and put their notes in the appropriate section when completed.

20 Questions If a student needs the teacher’s attention he or she should raise their hand. Students will be asked daily questions about the lesson to ensure all students understand the subject material. When a student is not on task I will follow the discipline plan.

21 Group Work Students will be encouraged to talk during group work; however, students should work independently during individual work and there should be no talking. Since students will be sitting in groups, students should utilize their group members during group work. The teacher will not answer any questions until the student has asked every member of the group.

22 Out of seat Students should not be out of their seat after the POD has ended. Students must always ask permission to get out of their seats.

23 What do I do when I’m done?
The book shelves in the classroom are for student use. I want to encourage each student to take advantage of these books and can read them during class once your assignments have been completed.

24 Post it Notes Activity

25 POD 1 Procedures How are you suppose to enter the classroom and what do you do when you get to your seat? When can you get up out of your seat? What do you write in your planner everyday? What procedure do you follow if you were absent the day before? How are you going to get home today?
