U.S. Beef Exports Update for November 2017 January 2018

Japan, Hong Kong drive beef export growth; value records in Korea and Taiwan $6.6 billion in value for January-November 2017 15% higher than first 11 months of 2016; slightly ahead of record pace established in 2014 $666.4 million in value for November 2017 8% higher than November 2016 1,150,187 metric tons (2.54 billion pounds) in volume for January-November 2017 7% higher than same period in 2016 111,915 metric tons (246 million pounds) in volume for November 2017 3 percent below November 2016, but second-largest of 2017 (USDA statistics compiled by USMEF; totals include muscle cuts and variety meat)

Top U.S. Beef Export Markets (January-November 2017) Japan – 285,336 metric tons (up 20% compared to 2016) ● value up 27% to $1.75 billion – already a post-BSE record ● chilled beef exports up 35% to 137,707 mt, valued at $1.02 billion (up 39 percent) Mexico – Steady with 2016 in both volume (216,765 mt) and value ($894.1 million) South Korea – 167,532 mt (up 5%) ● value up 19% to $1.1 billion – topping the 2016 record ● chilled beef up 88% to 41,086 mt, valued at $368.5 million (up 93%) Hong Kong – 113,440 mt (up 13%) ● value up 26% to $765 million Canada – 105,921 mt (up 1%) ● value up 5% to $725 million Taiwan – 40,402 mt (up 3%) ● value up 16% to $369.9 million, already breaking the 2016 record (USDA statistics compiled by USMEF; totals include muscle cuts and variety meat)

Measuring Beef Export Value Exports accounted for 13.1% of total U.S. beef production in November, 12.8% year-to-date Down from 14.9% last November Down from 13.5% in January-November 2016 Export value of $306.63 per head of fed slaughter in November, $282.34 year-to-date Up 4% from November 2016 and the highest in nearly three years Up 9% year-to-date (Export production % includes variety meat)
