 Unit 3.  Protists are eukaryotes that are not member of the Plant, Animal or Fungi kingdoms.  Most (but not all) are unicellular.
Pond Life. Protozoan animal-like single celled organisms with a nucleus. are often classified according to their locomotion – pseudopods, flagella, or.

Protists Paramecium, amoebas, Euglena, Hydra

Protists are classified by scientists into 3 main groups – Plant like protists, animal like protists and fungus like protists

- Protists Plantlike Protists Are commonly called algae.

Plant like protists include euglena is a common euglenoid that lives in fresh water. In sunlight, many euglenas can make their own food. Without sunlight, they obtain food from their environment.

Euglena www.micro.magnet.fsu.edu/moviegallery/pondscum/protozoa/euglena/rostrifera/t1/rostrifera06.html

Animal-Like Protists are called protozoans. Paramecia are ciliates that live mostly in fresh water. paramecia feed on bacteria and smaller protists.

Paramecium

Animal-Like Protists Amoebas are sarcodines that live in either water or soil. They get food by using their false feet – pseudopods to capture food like bacteria and smaller protists. . These are also used for transportation.

Amoeba

A paramecium uses ______ for movement Cilia A paramecium uses ______ for movement Pseudopods An amoeba uses __________ for movement A flagellate uses _________________ for movement Flagella

Eukarya Protists are in the domain eukarya which means they have a nucleus.

Spirogyra
