The Coming of Beowulf Now, it’s time to read!  Get out your copy of Beowulf and follow along. Remember: this copy will be yours to keep throughout the unit. Feel free to annotate as we read – it will make studying for our unit test much easier.

Grendel’s Family Tree After reading, you have two activities to complete today: Complete the Beowulf Job Interview activity. Read Beowulf’s famous self-introduction beginning with the lines, “Hail Hrothgar! … The days of my youth have been filled with glory…” After reading, translate Beowulf’s boasts into job interview responses (and no, you don’t have to act them out unless you want to ) Complete the Beowulf’s Confidence activity. Read the short article “Confidence: Why You Need It and How to Get It” on the back of your handout, and then respond to the five questions on the front. Be sure to provide evidence when the question asks for it!
