Job Search Tips Bulletin Board Erica Weil University of the Pacific

But what about…

BEWARE Craigslist can be a great job search resource! But watch out for scams, and protect your privacy when sharing personal information.

SIGNS that a JOB POST is BOGUS! The job title is generic or vague Hourly wage is too high or too specific ($34.23/ hour?) Exclamation points!!! poor grammar,,, weird sentences and misspleings. A quick response to your email inquiry tells you they have reviewed your resume (when you haven’t sent it yet), leads you to another website that promises more job openings, or asks you to sign up for a web-conferencing service.

If you suspect bogus: Send a generic inquiry first Search for the job title in Google Check the website addres they give you Never pay money for anything!

Prior to your job search 4. Manage your online reputation. Set up a Google alert for your name! 5. Prepare your resume and online professional profiles (LinkedIn, etc.) 6. Shop for your next employer! 1. Join a group! It helps build morale and provides instant connections. 2. Decide what you want to do, then focus your resume and experiences. 3. Determine your online reputation- Google yourself! Employers check.
