DO NOT WASTE INSTRUCTIONAL/LEARNING TIME TO “ORGANIZE” YOUR BINDERS! Binder Procedures Take care of your binder Avoid crushing, smashing, wetting, crinkling, spitting, dragging, etc. Take binder home every day – Boomerang it! Take home & bring back every day Use the 3-rings as they were designed Open, insert, close rings ORGANIZE IT, daily!!! In fact, take 15 seconds during content time to PUT PAPERS AWAY! One or two papers is way easier to manage, than 10-20-30 + papers Parents should monitor, but DO NOT REMOVE ANY PAPERS DO NOT WASTE INSTRUCTIONAL/LEARNING TIME TO “ORGANIZE” YOUR BINDERS!

What’s behind binder dividers? ADD papers BEHIND each binder tab AND in REVERSE DATE order! Reverse date order means the most current will be immediately behind the divider. Papers that are older are in the back. Student work: In-process work Completed unit assignments Handouts: Instructions Information Graded work: Including assessments

Handling of Notebook Paper Store notebook paper 50 sheets behind the first divider Keep papers unwrinkled, unfolded, untorn, unmashed… Always open rings to remove paper Never, never, never pull or tear paper out To add papers: Add paper(s) immediately behind the correct divider tab Paper(s) will be in reverse date order Hook papers onto each of the 3 rings No loose papers!!! Hole reinforcements should be used to repair the damage; ask teacher or buy your own

Teacher Binder Checks! Periodically, you will be graded on your organizational skills During binder checks, HANDS OFF! It is NOT the time to start putting things in the right place Class mates could monitor each other from using “Binder Checks” as a time to organize before the teacher comes around

Parent Participation with Binder Parents must oversee, monitor, and review: To help with student organizational skills To help improve student’s ability To help with student success To support school, teacher, and classroom
