Biomes. Biomes Biomes are a group of ecosystems with similar climates (temperature and rainfall) and organisms.
Biomes of the World. Weather vs. Climate Weather – the day-to-day condition of Earth’s atmosphere at a certain time and place. Climate – the average yearly.
Tropical Rain Forest Home to more species than all biomes combined! Soil is poor b/c organic matter is recycled so quickly High temperatures and precipitation.
Ecosystems and Biomes. Ecosystems Areas formed by plants and animals that have adapted to the environment.
Biomes. Major Biomes Tropical rain forest Tropical rain forest Tropical dry forest Tropical dry forest Savanna Savanna Grassland Grassland Desert Desert.
Biomes A biome is an area with similar climate, plants, and animals A biome is an area with similar climate, plants, and animals Climate: the temperature.
Preview: Biomes How do you think climate effects what vegetation and animals are in a region or area? It will effect the size of the population that supported.
ECOSYSTEMS - 1. Climate Zones- areas of the Earth where certain climate conditions have existed over time (temperature & precipitation)
How do you think climate effects what vegetation and animal or in a region or area?
Do Now Large areas that have similar weather, animals, and plants are called ____________. a)Biomes b)Climates c)Habitats d)Populations.
BIOMES A biome is an area over a large area with the same climate, plants, and animals. There are six major biomes that we will learn: 1. Desert 2. Tundra.

The Biosphere. Biosphere = anywhere on or above the surface of the earth where organisms live. -2 parts -Terrestrial -Aquatic Climate = the weather conditions.
BIOMES OF THE WORLD.
Why don’t polar bears live in the desert? Polar bears don’t live in the desert because they are adapted to very cold environments.
4-4 Biomes TUNDRA Cold and treeless Largest and northernmost biome Permafrost=permanently frozen layer of soil. Little rain, short growing season Grasses, mosses, caribou, snowy.

Biomes

Biomes Biome: Large regions of earth that has specific kinds of organisms Rainfall and Temp determine the plant life

Tundra Coldest of all biomes-frozen most of the year There are no trees, very few plants can survive in this environment Little precipitation and short growing seasons

Coniferous forest Forest of conifers (pine trees) Conifers have needles which have a waxy layer to conserve water Average rainfall- 35-75cm Temp- -10C to 14C

Desert Rainfall is less than 25cm/year Soil is sandy and rocky Plants and animals are adapted to low moisture ( Cactus, nocturnal animals

Deciduous Forest Has trees that have leaves Rainfall: 75-125cm These trees lose their leaves to conserve water during the winter Rainfall: 75-125cm Temp: 6C to 28C

Grassland Dominated by grass (not a lot of trees or large shrubs) Rainfall 25-75cm Temp 0C to 25C

Tropical rain forest Very hot and humid Supports a large biodiversity Rainfall 200-450cm Temp 25C to 28C
