Presentation transcript:

Mrs. Amazeen’s Classroom Newsletter September 12, 2016 Classroom News Thank you for another successful week in kindergarten! We enjoyed our first week of literacy & math centers and learned about what makes each of us special. We enjoyed talking about our 5 senses too. This weeks theme is “ABC’s”. We will enjoy lots of books and activities that will focus on our letters & their sounds. Responsibility Each month we will be focusing on different character traits that make us good citizens. This month we will be talking about responsibility, what is means and what it looks like. We will be on the look out for people being responsible & will add marbles to our classroom jar. Once we have “filled” our jar we will earn a classroom reward  Dates to Remember Monday 9/12 Monday “Shark” folders sent home Tuesday 9/13 Monday “Shark” folders return to school Wednesday 9/14 Library books are due Friday 9/16 Constitution Day Activities & Spirit Day! Wear your MSE school gear or black & red Magazines: If you have any magazines around the house that you would be willing to donate we will be needing them for an activity next week. Mrs. Amazeen Courtney.Amazeen@lcps.org Moorefield Station Elementary 571-252-2380

Project Based Learning We will begin our first PBL this week, “Alpha-what?” We will be discussing why learning our letters & their sounds is so important, to help us read, and why is it important to learn how to read. We will be working on this project for several weeks, focusing on 1 letter per day. A paper was sent home on Friday with the specific dates for each letter. If you are able to send in an item that beings with our letter of the day it would be appreciated. Prize Box We are still looking for prize box donations. Any small toys, books, stickers etc would help! A Peek at the Week ABC’s Reading: 1:1 voice/print touch reading Letter/sound recognition Recalling story events Writing: Stretching word sounds to help us write Upper & lower case letters Sentence structure Labeling pictures Math: Number formation Counting Number identification Patterns Word Club We have sent home our first word club list. Please practice reading the words listed with your child and when they feel they are confident in reading each word send the list back to school with your signature. We will then read the words with your child and if they are able to successfully read them we will send home list 2. This will continue for 20 lists. Once your child has completed all 20 lists we will start back at list 1, this time focusing on spelling each word. Please make sure your child is confident in reading each word before you send the lists back to school. Also allow for 2-3 days for us to read with your child & send home the next list. Reminders Monday Folders are sent home each Monday and should return to school on Tuesday. Please return your child’s red/blue folder daily along with their behavior calendar We have collected your child’s transportation tag, we no longer need your child to wear them, thanks!
