Degree Requirements for School of Education Conceptual Framework The School of Education prepares candidates to become Dynamic Educators who are: Effective Planners Engaging Instructors Skillful Managers Excellent Communicators Consummate Professionals

Degree Requirements for School of Education School of Education Benchmarks Admission into the Professional Program Minimum 60 credit hours General education classes successfully completed* Pre-professional education classes completed* 2.75 GPA Passing Scores on all 3 parts of Praxis Core exam (or SAT = 1650 or ACT = 24) *unless approved by Salk program director/advisor

Degree Requirements for School of Education Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators South Carolina State requirement for all Teacher Education candidates.  Exempt if ACT = 24+ or SAT = 1650+ (old SAT = 1100+).  Test on reading, writing, and mathematics.  Information and registration can be found at www.ets.org/praxis.  The ID codes for USCA and the SC Dept. of Education:  USCA ID#=5840 SC DEPT OF ED. ID#=8108  Takes approximately 3-4 weeks for official scores to reach the USCA School of Education office.  Resources:  USCA Blackboard Praxis Core Preparation software; USCA School of Education website; preparation materials on ETS website; Learning Express website at USC Aiken Gregg-Graniteville Library.

Degree Requirements for School of Education School of Education Benchmarks Junior & Senior Block Reviews Faculty meet at end of semester to discuss candidates progress in program. Faculty pay attention to grades, skills (in particular communication skills), and dispositions (such as attitude, dress).

Degree Requirements for School of Education School of Education Benchmarks Acceptance into Internship (Student teaching) 3.0 GPA All coursework successfully completed Passing score on Writing Proficiency Portfolio Passing scores on Praxis II exams (until Fall 2017) Internship applications through USCA & SCDoE Clearance by SCDoE via fingerprinting process that is checked via SLED and FBI.

USCA Degree Requirements Writing Proficiency portfolio Submit during Junior Year or take ENGL A201. The portfolio kit is available in the Bookstore. Order online and have it shipped to you. Portfolio deadlines are once each semester and once during the summer.

USCA Degree Requirements Writing intensive courses USC Aiken @ Salk teacher candidates will need to complete a minimum of two (2) WI designated courses. These are scheduled as part of the Professional Program Sequence (Math & SS Methods).

USCA Degree Requirements Inter-Curricular Enrichment (ICE) USC Aiken @ Salk teacher candidates will need to complete six (6) ICE events (depending on transfer credits). On-line options available for USC Aiken @ Salk teacher candidates.

USCA Degree Requirements Critical Inquiry Class Not required for USC Aiken @ Salkehatchie teacher candidates
