3 Early Childhood/Special Education ECSE

Campus Students: Make sure PeopleSoft record reflects your intended major. Please change or declare your major if need be.

4 Applications available in PY307 and online:
Campus students’ applications include: Criminal Disclosure statement notarized by Mrs. March- room 307. Unofficial transcript, including Fall 2017 grades (if courses taken at an outside institution have not posted to your transcript, submit an official transcript from the institution) Updated checklist from Advisor, and most recent advising data sheet Passing Scores on the Praxis Core, SAT, or ACT One page double-spaced essay explaining your reasons for entering the teaching profession.

Transfer students’ applications include: Copy of transcripts, including Fall 2017 grades Passing Scores on the Praxis Core, SAT, or ACT One page double-spaced essay explaining your reasons for entering the teaching profession. For TRANSFER STUDENTS

6 Passing Scores for Praxis Core, SAT, or ACT -Passing level of standards established by the MSDE

7 Do not depend on ETS to send the scores
Do not depend on ETS to send the scores. Provide a copy with your application. Print and save the score report from ETS (Praxis). ETS will charge a fee to obtain them later. These will be needed for program application and for future employment. Print SAT or ACT scores from their websites or College Board.

8 Help with Praxis Core Access sample items for each test on the ETS website, and study guides. Amazon.com has several Praxis Core study guides. Students may retake exams 21 days after each attempt. Students who attempt but do not pass one or more Praxis exams may contact for tutoring assistance. If you have not passed Praxis Core or one of the other accepted tests, provide the attempted scores to show your efforts. Applications will not be processed, but advisors will know to look out for scores.

9 Applications are due in Psychology 307 by 4pm on February 9, 2017 Deliver in person or mail to address listed on application We will continue to accept applications, depending on availability.

10 Minimum GPA of 2.75 in the prerequisite courses to be admitted to any TU education program. Admission is limited by space All prerequisite courses must have a grade of C or better. Most prerequisites may not be taken with the “pass” option. Once you are in the program, you must earn at least a 3.0 each semester and no grade below a C.

11 If GPA is less than 2.75 at the end of fall semester, the chances of admission to any education program are extremely limited. If you believe you can bring your GPA up to 2.75 by the end of Spring 2017, write a letter explaining your plan. If you will not have 60 credits by spring 17, but are willing to attend summer school, submit a letter explaining your plan.

12 Your schedule cannot be adjusted around work or carpool
Once you are Accepted Be flexible. You are guaranteed your courses but not a specific schedule or days off in a week. Students will be notified in March. Your schedule cannot be adjusted around work or carpool Arrive on time to schools and be professional.

Demonstrate professional behavior with ethical, moral, collegial and honest interactions with others Maintain confidentiality Support others at all times

14 Professional Manners and Matters
The criminal background check before the Professional Year is extensive. School systems control who can student teach in their schools Students who have had contact with the courts, may want to consult Mr. Caldwell in CPP to determine risk of being barred from the internship.

15 Important Info The FALL of your senior (Professional) year, interns may need to return to school earlier than TU’s start date; Professional internships WILL begin when teachers in local school systems return. Absences are not excused. Plan vacation, trips, work, etc. AROUND this professional commitment.

17 Other Opportunities: EMPOWER project
Beginning in Minimester 2019, special education majors have the opportunity to participate in ESOL courses to build skills for English learners.  All coursework will be FULLY FUNDED including tuition, fees and a stipend for books. Watch for info about applications and contact
