1 Liberty Hill HS Dual Credit Program
Welcome Students & Parents March 1, 2017

2 WHAT is Dual Credit? Partnership with LHISD & ACC that allows eligible high school students residing in the ACC service area to enroll in college level classes. . Now through Summer 2018: Students receive a total of 12 course attempts/waivers, after which regular tuition and fees are assessed. Effective Fall 2018: Students will be assessed a flat per-course fee of $100 (In-District) or $150 (Out-of- District), and are eligible for up to 60 credit hours. . Tuition & fees waivers (and the new flat per-course fee effective Fall 2018) are only applicable to courses on: the ACC Core Curriculum, a Workforce Degree/Certificate, and Foreign Languages.

3 Types of Dual Credit Dual Credit – Students complete a college course that meets ISD-approved graduation requirements (ex. HIST-1302 or GOVT-2305). Co-Enrollment – Students complete a college course and only receive college credit…The class is not needed for high school graduation (ex. GOVT- 2306). ACCTech- Articulated Credit - career and technical high school course(s) that are articulated to an ACC credit course. Varies for each ISD and ACC credit posted, once student completes one ACC class.

4 WHO is Eligible? LHHS Dual Credit:
Students must have completed the sophomore year of high school. Students who have passed the appropriate sections of the State of Texas- approved college readiness assessment test (TSI-A) or submit acceptable exemption scores. *Please see back of Dual Credit Enrollment Steps Worksheet for full list. Legislative Changes Spring 2016: ACC now allows Students who have completed the 8th grade & enrolled in HS to take classes. Students must show college readiness in the areas required for the course they wish to take. This DOES NOT apply to the LHHS Dual Credit program we offer here at the high school. Students are NOT limited to two ACC classes per semester; however, ACC strongly recommends all first time college students enroll in EDUC 1300, and a maximum of two total classes in semester one.

5 WHERE are Classes Offered?
Dual Credit Students may take classes at Liberty Hill High school before and during the school day as scheduled. Students are limited to two ACC classes per semester. Dual Credit Students may also take classes at any ACC campus, Center location, or via Distance Learning (online).

6 WHY Take Dual Credit Classes?
Save $$$ (potentially 1yr+ of college!). Earn both high school and college credit. Gain college-level experience while in high school. Stand out on college admission applications. Graduate from college early or reduce semester course load.

7

8 College Vs. High School Students pay for textbooks/required materials.
College classes can/will require a different level of work than high school classes. Also, different structure! Course content and student expectations are not altered in any way to accommodate students under 18 years of age  Academic Freedom Students must attend ACC class – HS extra-curricular activities are not automatically excused, student is responsible for talking to Professor prior. ACC issues letter grades only (A, B, C, D, F, and W)

9 Important for Parents & Students
Liberty Hill HS does not allow students to drop an ACC class prior to the end date. ACC information goes directly to the student via the students ACCmail account. Students will be 100% responsible for communicating with their professors when unsure of course material, academic progress, or assignments/requirements. Parents will NOT have access to student College records; including absences, grades, and course progress (FERPA). All information will have to come directly from the student.

10 Student Success & Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP)
Student success is extremely important. College records are permanent and will follow students to colleges and universities upon high school graduation. Students must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 (“C” or better in all ACC classes) -and- they must complete 67% of all classes attempted (No F’s or W’s) Students who do not meet SAP may not be eligible for financial aid upon high school graduation until GPA and Completion Rate meet requirements. Courses failed and/or dropped with a ‘W’ count towards SAP Failure to meet SAP requirements will affect financial aid eligibility once the student graduates from HS and attends a 2yr/4yr college or university

11 U.S. History at UT, TAMU, TX State, etc.
The Good News… Dual Credit students do better than traditional students in terms of mean GPA and have better persistence from semester-to-semester. ACC credits transfer seamlessly to Texas public colleges and universities. U.S. History at ACC = U.S. History at UT, TAMU, TX State, etc. ACC credits can transfer widely to Texas private colleges, as well as out-of-state public and private colleges/universities.

13 College Readiness & Testing
All students must take the TSI Assessment, unless they can demonstrate qualified exemptions. Partial college readiness permitted in reading/writing section & math section. TSI Exemptions: SAT: EBRW – 480 / Math 530 Scores must be from one sitting ACT: 23 composite AND 19+ English / 19+ math Scores must be from one sitting and not older than five years. STAAR: English III & Algebra II – (NOT given at LHHS) English III Level 2, with a scaled score of 4000 = TSI reading & writing exemption Algebra II Level 2, with a scaled score of 4000 = TSI math exemption

14 Dual Credit / TSI TSI: Testing & Scores Report
The cost of the ACC TSI test is $29.00 per student, subsequent retesting will cost $10 per section. There are no TSI test fee waivers. TSI scores and/or exemptions MUST be submitted with co-enrollment form for all first time dual students. TSI college readiness standards through Summer 2017: Reading – 351 Writing – 5 essay OR 4 essay/363 objective Math – 350

15 Advising ALL dual credit students MUST meet with HS Counselor and an ACC advisor/specialist EVERY semester they wish to enroll. With Mrs. Kercheville: Reviews college readiness or exemption. Determines ACC courses for high school dual credit. Gives ACC co-enrollment form to student and completes the “High School Counselor Sections” of form (TSI & ACC course(s), when for dual high school credit). With ACC dual credit specialist or campus advisor: Verifies TSI & course prerequisite(s) eligibility. Advises student on importance of success & satisfactory academic progress (SAP) standards. Reviews registration using ACC online services.
