3 Freshman  Take the Praxis I (PPST) exam  Attend ICE activities  Begin collecting Junior Writing Portfolio samples

4 Sophomores  Attend ICE activities  Submit Junior Writing Portfolio  Apply to Professional Program

5 Juniors  Take Praxis II exam(s)  Submit electronic fingerprints application form  Apply to Internship and for Certification  Attend ICE activities

6 Seniors  Complete ICE requirements  Submit internship portfolio  Take PLT exam  Complete graduation application

7 Praxis Exams  Praxis I (PPST) Reading, Writing, and Math  Praxis II (subject area exams)  Praxis II (Principles of Learning and Teaching - PLT)

8 LOOK AT THE TEST CODE. MAKE SURE YOU ARE TAKING THE CORRECT EXAM.

9 Things to Remember (Praxis)  Including your SS# on registration expedites certification process  Include correct USCA and SCDoEd codes on application  Submit correct test code when registering

10 Professional Program  Submit application online by due date  Cumulative GPA 2.75  Grade of C or better in select courses

11 Professional Program cont’d  Official report indicating passing PPST scores  Positive rating by faculty on interview  Fall candidates must meet the June 1 deadline for meeting all criteria

12 Internship  Admission to the Professional Program for at least one semester.  Grade of C or better in all education courses and subject area course requirements.

13 Internship cont’d  Official report of passing Praxis II scores.  July 20 th for Fall interns  December 15 th for Spring interns

14 Internship cont’d  Successful completion of Writing Proficiency Requirement

15 Things to Remember (Internship)  Fall interns start school before USCA classes begin.  Spring interns attend opening of public school before USCA classes begin.

16 Certification  Pass PLT exam  Complete SC application for certification application  Register online for fingerprinting

17 Certification cont’d  Receipt of payment, application, registration with a copy of SS card to SOE  Fall interns fingerprint Jan  Spring interns fingerprint in April

18 Professional Disposition Expectations  Keep all information confidential  Be respectful, courteous, and sympathetic to all

19 Expectations cont’d  Realize that each student is an individual.  Be enthusiastic and eager in all matters pertaining to teaching.

21 USCA Email Account  Important updates, changes, reminders, etc. will be sent to your USCA email address.  You are required to check it at least weekly all year long.

27 Internship Fact – Since 2001, one intern has been removed each semester from internship due to poor performance….mostly due to dispositional issues.
