1 So, you’re interested in Nursing at Roanoke Chowan Community College?
Student Information Session

2 Step 1: You must first apply to the college, and take the placement test if required. Applications to the college are available on campus, and online. Remember to request official transcripts from high school and all colleges that you may have attended.

3 Step 2: Complete any developmental courses as recommended based on your placement test scores up to and including DMA 50 and DRE 098.

4 Step 3 Obtain your CNA I certification
CNA courses are available here at Roanoke Chowan Community College through our Continuing Education/Allied Health Dept. These courses are generally 8 weeks in length and are offered at various times throughout the year including the summer. For specific questions regarding the CNA program you may contact Jamie Applicants MUST be on the NA registry in good standing when applying to the ADN Program.

5 Step 3 continued A current copy of your CNA registration through the NC state CNA registry must be submitted along with your application. You can retrieve this information from the weblink: Your CNA registration must remain current throughout your enrollment in the nursing program. Once accepted in the ADN Program, applicants certification cannot lapse. May be dismissed from the program.

6 Step 4: After completion of prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” or higher, you must APPLY TO THE NURSING PROGRAM. The Nursing Department accepts applications beginning November 1st and closes the application period on February 1st for fall admission. Applications are/will be available online. Please complete your application and return it BY MAIL to: Admissions Roanoke Chowan Community College 109 Community College Road Ahoskie, NC 27910 No faxed, hand delivered, or ed applications will be accepted. Please allow adequate time for your application to reach us by the February 1st deadline. Explain the section on the Application concerning LPN applicants. LPN can select on the application to “Request credit for NUR 111”. Applicant who chooses to audit NUR 111 will have to take the Comprehensive Theory Evaluation and Skills Test. Applicant must pass the written exam and clinical performance with an “80” B. ADN faculty strongly advises LPN Applicant to take NUR 111.

7 STEP 5 Verification of CPR certification must be included with your application. **When scheduling your class please remember that cards are not always available immediately after the course. Please allow enough time, so that your card is available as proof of certification by the February 1st deadline. CPR certification must be obtained through an approved American Heart Association course. We will not accept certification from any other sources. Your CPR certification must remain current throughout your enrollment in the nursing program. Once accepted in the ADN Program, applicants certification cannot lapse. May be dismissed from the program.

8 Step 6 Completed Health Form:  Submit a completed North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) Health Examination Form, available online at This form MUST be included with your application packet on or before February 1st.

9 Complete Packet Includes:
Completed ADN Application Verification of current NAI registry Verification of current CPR certification Completed Health Form (including immunizations or titers) Packet MUST be postmarked on or before February 1st. If the Admission Packet is not complete, applicants will receive notification via letter, , and/or phone call. Please make sure your postal address, information, and phone number is current. Explain that Admission to the ADN Program is a lengthy process and this is the first step.

10 Application Processing:
Once the application period has closed: Transcripts are evaluated by the Registrar. Credit for any transfer courses will be given. GPA calculations are obtained from the Registrar’s Office. Minimum GPA for admission: 2.8 GED scores High School Transcripts (If you have earned less than 12 college credits) Or the last three college semesters Does not include Developmental, ACA, or PE Courses.

11 Application Processing
Applicants who have taken all prerequisite courses, and have met the GPA requirement will receive information (Mid February)about how to register for the Kaplan Entrance Exam (Mid March). Candidates must take the Kaplan Entrance Exam. Test scores are good for one year. The time frame for informing applicants about taking the Kaplan Entrance Exam will vary due to the number of applicants the Register will have to process.

12 Application Processing:
After review of all admission requirements, you may receive a letter of acceptance into the nursing program. The letter will contain information about the: MANDATORY Orientation Session Uniform Fittings Supplies and Book Lists Letter of Acknowledgement Possibly explain about the Minimum Admissions Requirement (MAR) and notification of acceptance to the ADN Program should be received before the end of the spring semester. The following information is from the ADN Policy and Procedural Manual: It is mandatory for applicants to inform Student Services of any changes in their personal information occurring since the date of application in order for corrections to be made on the selection data sheet (phone number, address, etc.). The College will not be responsible for any letters not delivered because of incorrect mailing addresses.

13 Application Processing:
After review of all admission requirements, you may receive a letter of denial or wait listing into the nursing program. Notification of denial or wait listing to the ADN Program should be received before the end of the spring semester.
