Timbercroft Primary School September Reception Intake Meeting Monday 26th June 2017

Purpose of Meeting To introduce the EYFS Team To outline procedures for induction into our school To let you know what our routines and procedures are – even if you know the school already To answer any questions you may have Welcome – we are delighted you are joining or staying with us at Timbercroft.

Pupil Information We appreciate it can be daunting but we needed to get all the information for enrolment! Please complete and return to the office as soon as possible.

Getting to know the class Chance to go down tonight Staggered entry – no longer than a week: Monday - up until lunchtime 12 Tuesday – stay for lunch & pick up 1:15 Wednesday – stay for lunch & pick up 1:15 Thursday - stay for lunch & pick up at 2pm Friday – whole day – they will sleep that night!

Pointers for the First Day The bell will go at 8:55. Bring the children into the reception playground – an opportunity for you to take a memorable photo of your child on their first day at school. The children will be taken by staff into the classrooms. Please leave your child at the door – they may get upset but we are very experienced and they will soon settle in – please do not go into the classrooms with your child.

Getting them used to routines and developing independence Children will take their own coats off and be supported to do this and hang them up if necessary (please make sure they are labelled). Please allow the teacher to lead the children into the school to hang up coats and settle them down. Children can bring a water bottle and this must be labelled – they bring this in themselves. Please be at school promptly each day to collect your child as this can be distressing for them. It is important that the younger sibling is collected first before older siblings please. Please make sure we know who is collecting your child at the end of the day and if there are changes, please write a note to your child’s teacher or ring the office.

Welcome to Timbercroft

Meet the Teachers

Clothing and Possessions Label, Label, Label Please make sure over the holiday they practice dressing and undressing – we may not be doing PE immediately but they need to be prepared for when we do. Velcro is not a necessity but boy does it help!! PLEASE NO LACES UNLESS THE CHILDREN CAN TIE THEM School uniform is available from www.Caseysschoolwear.co.uk 246 Blackfen Road DA15 8PW David or Bridgette: 0208 850 8645

Attendance and Punctuality Bell goes at 8:55 am and go through to the side of the EYFS building Please do not leave your child until the bell has gone. Letters are sent out if there are persistent late arrivals! We have our own Attendance Officer and we are strict on NO holidays during term time – we want the children to be prepared for life long learning and citizenship and the odd day off for something trivial does not set them up for life. Bad habits now remain as bad habits as adults!

Absence: Please telephone and inform the school if your child is absent and give the reason. Illnesses: Infectious illnesses MUST be reported immediately (e.g. Chickenpox, Measles,Conjunctivitis) Sickness: If your child has a stomach or sickness bug THEY MUST remain at home for 48 hours after the last bout. Prescription only medicines can be administered. If your child becomes ill during the day we will make contact with you immediately and ask you to come and collect or arrange for another person to collect on your behalf. You MUST keep your contact details up to date.

Food! The school dinners are cooked on site. The menu is sent out at the start of the term. Packed Lunches: Children all eat at the same time. Lunch is at 12:00 – 1:00. Water is provided. NO NUTS For the first few weeks the EYFS team are in the hall supporting the children and helping them settle, make good choices and eat independently. As your child is under 7 years of age you DO NOT have to pay for school dinners at the moment….they are free! Look at our school website for further information. For the first full week we do allow the children to try out the dinners but you must make the choice of a healthy packed lunch or school dinner and keep with that decision termly. Fruit is provided in the morning – you may bring in extra but no other snacks please.

Communication Half termly newsletters Regular text informing parents of event etc Emails Class letters Website Posters outside the classroom Verbal communication if needed for individual parents

What did you do at school today? Usual responses!

Things to practice/do over the Summer… - Going to the toilet independently; - Getting dressed by themselves; - Using a knife and fork; - Blowing their nose and washing hands;

Any Questions?
