2 Transition & change

3 Transition We have already started….!
Beth - Reception already coming up to playground at lunchtimes Will be coming to assemblies Spent day on site for polling day Meet the teacher in the last week of term

4 Days 1 and 2 Tuesday 4th and Wednesday 5th September
On these days, we invite parents and carers to come into the classroom and to settle their child onto the carpet. All Year 1 classes will be in the corridor where the children line up for their lunch in reception. TA will be at the door to welcome them Children will be collected at 3.15pm from their classroom door on the balcony Ellie - The quicker parents leave their child, the easier the transition will be

5 Day 3 onwards… To encourage independence Year 1 will line up in front of their teacher in the Key Stage 1 playground. The teacher will then take them into the class. Home time will remain the same. Collect at the balcony. Please be patient with staff when collecting your child as we won’t know everyone’s parents. Ellie

6 Forest School Help to settle them as it’s a familiar routine.
Jo Hinson will run this similarly to reception forest school. Parent Volunteers. Ellie

7 Communication If you would like to speak to us about your child then please feel free to make an appointment for after school. Class Dojo- we will re-introduce this within the first few weeks. Leave brief messages on the door (e.g. pick ups) If it is about your child’s health or appointments/absence during the school day please contact the school office School trip money to be given to school office Yuri – class teacher is FIRST point of call

8 Learning Yuri - Active learning.
Look like reception- children will be familiar Similar structure- carpet, free flow (indoor and outdoor) Gradually move towards structured lessons, still practical

9 English Letters and Sounds Handwriting practise
High quality books and story telling Yuri revise phase 3 and 4 then on to 5

10 Reading Changing books (3 per week) – children are given the opportunity to change their books once a week They will read with an adult in school once a week. Encourage regular reading – ideally 4 times a week and initial/comment in new reading record – little and often! School bags with reading records are expected in school everyday! Books will be released home once the children have read 1:1 with the teacher. Yuri – 2 ORT and 1 free choice book During the first 2 weeks – establishment phase – quality reading time to gage their level

11 Maths 5th year of the new curriculum
Practical approach- developing conceptual understanding of the 4 number operations Key number facts-bonds to 10 and 20 Number – reading and writing numbers to 100 Fractions – finding ½ or 1/ 4 of a shape or a group of objects Ellie

12 P.E Bring in a pair of shorts, t-shirt and trainers to keep in school until half term. Kits are sent home at half term in order for them to be washed and returned. Velcro or zips if still learning to tie laces. Ellie-As yet we do not know our PPA timetable – will send this information home!

13 Home Learning Reading as often as possible! Optional e-Books will be set via Bug Club. Books will continue to be a mixture of ORT, Project X and Story Sparks. Home learning for Maths will consist of activities and interactive games online. Short lists of spellings to learn will be sent home further on in the year. Beth– all optional
