2 Welcome and Introductions

4 Attendance Whole school priority to improve our whole school percentage for attendance. National average is 96% Class reward systems and whole school display Recognition of 100% attendance Letters sent at least termly to inform parents of your child’s current attendance Work with a group of Education Welfare Officers who work in conjunction with the Local Authority. No term time holidays are authorised and if these are taken they can be processed as penalty notices by the Local Authority. 48 hour sickness policy Medical appointments outside of school hours

5 Punctuality Punctuality – school doors open at 8:45 and remain open for 10 minutes. Registration begins at 8:55 and If the children arrive after that they are marked as ‘late’ and if they arrive after 9:15 they are marked with a ‘U’ code. The teaching begins promptly at 9:00am. Aim to instil in the children good attendance and punctuality routines.

6 Before and After School Club ‘Orchards’
Morning sessions 7:45 – 8:45am Afternoon sessions (short) 3:15 – 4:30pm Afternoon sessions (long) 3:15 – 6:00pm Very popular – limited space and availability An overview of ‘Orchards’ is in the main prospectus but please register your interest in a club place if this is something you require for September with Mrs McCloskey before you leave. The point of contact in the infant office for ‘Orchards’ bookings is Mrs Chakmak who is based at the junior site. If you are looking at wraparound – please contact local providers as some drop off and collect from our school – some have provided information in your induction pack

7 Lunchtime All pupils are entitled to a free school meal. You do not need to register for your child to receive this. Our school kitchen offers a hot and a cold option – children choose this each morning. The hot menu is uploaded onto the school website and runs on a three weekly cycle. Each week a letter comes home to let you know what the two hot options are. The cold option is a sandwich/wrap with either ham, cheese or tuna. Lunchboxes from home can be provided if you believe your child will not eat any food provided by school but we encourage the children to have meals provided by school. On the first few days in September, all children will stay for lunch on one of the days to familiarise them with the lunchtime routine.

8 Phonics – Read Write Inc
Phonics is a programme that uses systematic phonics to teach all children to read. It lasts two years for most children - if they start to learn to read in the Reception class. We teach the sounds first – in a specific order. We then teach your children to blend those sounds together in order to read words. All Reception children will have phonics sessions with the teacher and TA each day and will learn a new sound each day. Since its implementation 2 years ago the percentage of children achieving the expected standard has increased by over 10%.

9 Phonics – Read Write Inc
We teach using pure sounds. Pure sounds (‘m’ not’ muh’, ’s’ not ‘suh’, etc.) so that your child will be able to blend the sounds into words more easily. Children need to know sounds – not letter names – to read words. We will hold a separate Read Write Inc meeting in September for all parents when you will be provided with ‘Reading at Home Booklet 1’ which will provide you with more information about the structure of Read Write Inc.

10 Further Information Please ensure that you have handed in the admission pack. You have a pack with a whole range of information in. New parents will need to register for milk if you wish your child to have this – free up to the age of 5. New parents will need to register on Parent Pay (after they start in September). If you have handed in your child’s birth certificate or passport, please remember to collect this after the class teachers have completed their individual presentations. School Nurse Class teachers are now going to explain a little more about the induction process and the EYFS curriculum. Any questions?
