Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre Monday 3rd – Wednesday 5th July

Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre… The Porthpean Outdoor Education Centre: just outside of St Austell; spectacular views over the sea and local countryside.

Activities … The Centre is equipped with: its own indoor climbing walls; an extensive high ropes course (Jacob’s ladder. Leap of faith, zip wire etc); a beach centre offering a range of water activities – canoeing, sailing, kayaking, coasteering, rock-pooling; an archery range; All of the associated safety equipment that the children might need. All staff at the centre are highly qualified and experienced and deliver a range of outdoor activities in an enthusiastic, supportive, caring manner.

Sleeping Sleeping accommodation – large canvas tents, with floor-boards and mattresses. Tents are arranged in 'villages' - maximum of 40 children and their leaders. The camping is supported by: a dining hall, boys and girls toilet and shower block, drying room, first aid room, night time security team.

Itinerary - Monday Meet on the top playground Leave bags to the right of the entrance gate, not blocking the gate or steps would be ideal Please then say your goodbyes as departure time is only approximate – between 9.30 and 10am Coach journey approximately an hour to an hour and a half Arrive, unload coach, set up camp Eat packed lunch (please pack your child a lunch, tuck and drinks for the day) Afternoon Activities Climbing and archery Dinner Evening – beach games, weather and tide dependent.

Tuesday – Beach Day Breakfast / tent-tidy inspection Walk to the beach centre Canoeing / kayaks Coasteering Day boat sailing (tide, weather, wind dependent) Lunch at the beach Evening – dinner, games, relaxation!!!

Wednesday Pack up tents / breakfast Activities - High ropes Lunch and then return to school before 3.30pm

Kit list – every child has had 2 copies sent home For day time water / land based activities: Underwear Several pairs of warm socks T-Shirts Trousers (tracksuits ideal BUT NO JEANS) Jumpers / Sweat tops / Fleeces A warm coat A waterproof jacket At least two pairs of trainers / plimsolls – 1 pair will wet – this pair should preferably be lace ups Rucksack / day bag – large enough to hold a lunch box, drink and spare clothes Packed lunch box Unbreakable drinks container – approximately 1 litre in size Cap / sun hat Sun cream Personal medical kit – if required Plenty of warm clothes in case of adverse weather. For the night: Sleeping Bag Pillow and pillowcase Pyjamas – warm as it does get cold at night Towel Wash bag with toiletries Torch For the centre: Clothing and footwear for evening Two black bin liners (for wet and dirty clothes) Several carrier bags

PLEASE: Pack everything into a medium sized bag, case - Sleeping bags and pillows are best packed separately – please make sure these are very clearly named Pack enough warm clothes, as even in July the weather can be very unpredictable Make sure your child does the majority of their packing so they are fully aware of what they have taken with them Label everything with your child’s name
