Why care about bullying at CE Williams?

Bullying Across the Country Bullying is the leading cause of attempted suicide among children. 75 percent of school shooters were bullied at least once in their lifetime. Over 160,000 children miss school for fear of being bullied every day. Bullying occurs most frequently from 6th to 8th grade.

What to Do If You Are Being Bullied: STOP, WALK, TALK! Ask the bully to stop and tell them that you don’t like it. Ignore the bully and walk away or ask to move your seat. If the harassment continues, talk and report it to an adult!

More Ways to Handle a Bully Avoid bullies and where they hang out. Act and look confident. Always stay in an adult’s supervision. Travel in a group. Keep a record of events. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Ask for help and continue to do so until you get it. Stand up for others and they will do the same for you. Remember: “OHANA” means family, where no one gets left behind.

How to Report Bullying Victims Bystanders Report incident immediately and directly to an adult in school you trust, or leave detailed report in “bully box” in Guidance Discuss with your parents Document incidents and list of witnesses Bystanders Intervene if possible Report to teacher, counselor, or principal Write down what was said or done

Sexual Harassment (A Type of Bullying) Physical Deliberately bumping or brushing up against someone Unwanted grabbing, hugging, kissing… Verbal Sexual jokes, remarks, rumors, or comments about a person’s body Whistles or offensive noises Nonverbal Drawings, pictures, or photographs with sexual contact Staring at a person’s body and obscene gestures Remember: Sexual Harassment is against the law! Sexual Harassment is a type of bullying No means No!!!
