Why Physical Education? An important goal in physical education class is to introduce students to the fundamental skills of many different activities as well as incorporate personal fitness. Physical Education class will emphasize both individual and team sports as well as life long activities.

Grading Letter Grades: 90-100 = A 80-89= B 70-79= C 60-69= D Below 60= F Grades are based on a point scale with points earned for: Attendance Participation and effort Appropriate dress – This includes jewelry In class assignments Grading System based on 100 point Scale + May earn bonus points for exceptional effort! Go for it! -5 pts. for not dressing out, but will participate in class activities -5 pts. for not participating in class activities or lack of quality effort -2 pts. if student is wearing any form of jewelry -2 pts. if student is late for class or late reporting to squads *Plus consequences listed on slide 5.

Assessments/Evaluation Each student will be evaluated based on Six State Standards: Standard 1: Motor Skills & Movement Patterns Standard 2: Knowledge of movement concepts, principles, strategies and tactics. Standard 3: Participates in physical activity Standard 4: Health-enhancing level of fitness. Standard 5: Personal and social behavior Standard 6: Values physical activity What does this really mean? - - - - We are going to determine how students compare to other students in your age group from not only Tipp City Schools but from other schools in the state of Ohio. It also will allow us to determine skills and tasks we/you need to improve on in Physical Education.

Policies and Procedures Arrival Procedures Consequences Stop by locker first if possible to drop off books, jewelry, and grab tennis shoes (with laces). If students need to use locker rooms drop off belongings and go to assigned spot in gym. Students will have three minutes from class bell to be in assigned spot in gym. 1st Offense: 20 pushups 2nd Offense: 50 pushups 3rd Offense: Detention * If late, students must have a pass.

What To Wear? Place gym clothes in a small gym bag or plastic grocery bag Gym Shoes and socks Athletic Shorts, T-shirt (with sleeves) Dress for the weather! Add sweatshirts, sweatpants, hats, etc. as it gets cooler. Safety! In accordance with OHSAA, no jewelry may be worn during physical activity. Any piercings which can not be removed, must be taped with athletic tape or Band-Aid. Gum chewing is not allowed in class.

What if I need to be excused from Physical Education? Note from a Doctor A doctor’s note will be honored as written. The student will be excused for the duration of the time prescribed by the doctor. The student will return to class when released by the doctor. Assignments may be given depending upon the duration of excuse in order to receive a grade. A Note from Parents/Guardian We appreciate knowing any physical difficulties a student may be having. A note from home may not be an automatic excuse from physical education. The instructor will make a decision based on the nature of the student’s injury or illness and the class activity for the day. It is always our intention to do what is best for each student. A note from home is honored for one day. If additional days are needed, a doctor’s note is required.

Class Expectations Please be considerate and respectful of the rights, property, and feelings of others. Inappropriate language or comments deemed inappropriate will not be tolerated. Come to class prepared and on time. Listen quietly to instructions and follow directions. Always behave in a safe and responsible manner.

Consequences for Choosing to Not to Obey Class Rules You will receive a verbal warning. You may have to perform additional fitness activities. You may be issued a detention. Your parent/guardian will be contacted concerning your behavior. You will be removed from the classroom You will be referred to Mr. Lavercombe for further discipline

Participation = Try Hard, Do your Best! Give each class and every activity a fair and honest effort.
