2 This course will help students gain knowledge of ways to improve their total body fitness level. Students will actively participate in a total fitness program while working toward an optimal level of fitness. Students will engage in a circuit workout program using state-of-the- art equipment. All components of health-related physical fitness will be included. The class will focus on strength training, cardio-respiratory endurance, flexibility, and body composition. Students will be able to chart their progress throughout the semester and see the results of the class. Students will also learn how to make healthy choices regarding diet and exercise.

3 Course Pacing Guide: Body Sculpting Week 1: Fitnessgram Pre-test Week 2-3: Self Esteem Body Image Nutrition Eating Disorders Body Composition Week 4-15: Health Related Fitness- Circuit Training, Muscular Strength/Endurance, Core Strength, T-25/Yoga/Pilates, Target HR, Flexibility Week 16-18: Fitnessgram Post-Test, Final Project (Developing a workout)

4 Standard 1: Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. Standard 2: Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities. Standard 3. Participates regularly in physical activity. Standard 4. Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness. Standard 5: Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings. Standard 6. Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and /or social interaction. Participation: 75% Classwork: 10% FINAL EXAM: 15%

5 75% of your grade will come from dressing out and participating on workout days Students will be assigned a locker. Big lockers may only be used during your class period. You must bring your own COMBINATION lock. Students ARE NOT permitted to go to the vending machines at any time during class. Students will not be allowed back in the locker room once it has been locked. After dressing back in, students must be in the locker room or in one of the designated hallways until the bell rings.

6 Each student receives 40 points/week for dressing out and participating. Non-dresses will result in a deduction of 10 points. All excused absences. Make up sessions are held every Wednesday morning and afternoon except early release days. Morning sessions are held in Gym I from 7:30 – 8:00am and afternoon sessions are held at the track from 3:40 – 4:10pm. YOU MUST BE ON TIME! Make-ups consist of a jog/walk.

7 We will be in the classroom 1 day a week 10% of your grade will come from your classroom activities and assignments. Be in the classroom when the tardy bell rings and go immediately to your seat Harrison High School Tardy Policy – Refer to Student Handbook located on Harrison Website MAKE-UP WORK: It is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to check blog and make arrangements to make up missed assignments. Work not made up within 1 week returning to school will result in a ZERO.

8 Students who are injured for an extended period of time, must make up workout days by completing a paper that will be assigned to you as it pertains to you specific injury. You MUST have a doctors note listing your restrictions and how long you will be unable to participate. Depending on the type of injury, the teacher will be to adapt workouts to meet the workout day requirements.

9 T-shirt and “exercise” shorts (no buttons, zippers or belts) NO tank tops, sleeveless shirts or cut-offs Sweats when needed Shorts need to be appropriate length Socks Tennis shoes only

10 “ Students shall not use, display or turn on cellular phones, video phones, or electronic devices during instruction time except when a teacher uses these devices for instructional purposes. The consequences for inappropriate cell phone use are: 1st offense – Saturday School 2nd offense – 1 Day of ISS 3rd offense – 2 Days of ISS On days we run on the track, you will be able to use you phones with earbuds to listen to music
