4 HPE Things to Know  Enter/exit/fire drill  Bring: LOCK, shoes, socks, shirt, shorts, agenda, ‘bound’ notebook, pen/pencil  Leave cell phones and valuables at home or school locker  Take a knee on a whistle  Stay with your teacher  Sign out to leave the gym  “Flicking the lights”  AUX Gym/Health Classroom  Water Fountains  Injuries

5 Rules  Arrive on time (Good attendance is crucial to your success). Bring a pen/pencil and agenda.  Dress appropriately for class (Combination lock, shoes, t-shirt, shorts, socks, sweat suits/sweat jackets when chilly).  STOP on any whistle. Listen when the teacher or another student is talking (Follow directions).  Respect yourself and others (Violence, harassment, cursing and horseplay will not be tolerated).  Care for the equipment and facilities. (Food, gum and drinks are NOT permitted in class).

6 Consequences (Behavior)  1st Offense: Teacher re-direct  2nd Offense: Penalty box (removal from activity) for 5 minutes. Possible written assignment as a substitute activity..  3rd Offense: Phone call home  4th Offense: If a middle school age student cannot control himself/herself after a 3rd consequence, he/she is negatively impacting the learning of other students and will be removed from the class to the Dean of Students

7 Consequences (Dress Out/Classwork)  1 st Offense: Note home in agenda.  2 nd Offense: Parent Contact  3 rd Offense: Grade lowered.  4 th Offense: Referral to Dean of Students

8 CLASS ROUTINE FOR HEALTH:  Students arrive on time with HPE notebook, agenda, pen/pencil and sit in assigned seats.  For warm-up, students will complete the assignment as per direction.  Teacher introduces the lesson.  Students participate in the lesson and complete tasks, including turning in assignments. Clean-up is expected when activity is finished.  Positive comments and attitudes required.

11 CLASS ROUTINE FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION:  Students arrive on time and report to the locker room to change clothes. NOTE: Each student is required to have a combination lock to use each class period. Locks used in the gym area must be removed at the end of each class period. The HPE staff is NOT responsible for valuables.  When lights in locker room “flick,” students report to gym with HPE notebook and pen/pencil, check in with teacher and begin laps and/or stations. Students may not return to the locker room without permission.  On signal, students report to squads for continuation of warm-up. Participate fully in activity.  Dismissal 1: “Take a knee” at the whistle. Equipment clean-up, lesson closure and dismissal to locker room follows.  Dismissal 2: Students dress and collect gear and wait to be dismissed to next block or bus/carpool). Quiet on announcements.

13 How is an IB Class Different from a regular PE Class? Essential Questions Areas of Interaction esp. environment Written tests/reflections, skill/strategy analyses, performance assessments and active use of independent engagement time. High Expectations for Appreciating the Differences among Us An understanding that lifelong sports are essential for global survival

14 No Combination Lock: The HPE Staff is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
