1 + Health and Physical Education I/ Fit for Life Syllabus Review Key things you need to remember in order to achieve success. MHS

2 + Physical Education and Health I/FFL Is a required course for graduation. Fit For Life is an elective credit Students will be required to dress out in physical education appropriate clothing for participation in the activities every day. During the physical education unit, students will learn skills, concepts, and strategies of various sports and how they relate to fitness and more specifically the components of fitness, the importance of daily activity and the mental, emotional and physical benefits that come from regular participation in a fitness program. During the health unit, students will learn how to successfully deal with the health issues of today.

3 + In Fit for Life: The emphasis is on understanding concepts and improving the student’s level of fitness through a variety of exercise and conditioning programs as well as sport activities. This will require a high level of activity and physical effort during the entire class period on a daily basis throughout the semester. Your grade will be based on your daily effort, the extent to which you improve your level of fitness in all five components of fitness, and understanding and applying cognitive concepts of fitness. Various training programs include: Aerobics, Step Aerobics, Insanity, Cardio Boxing, Pilates, Crossfit, Zumba, and Yoga Physical Education and Health I/FFL

4 + Dress Out requirements: Students must dress out completely to participate and get credit. This includes: T-shirt, gym shorts, socks, & athletic shoes Sweat clothes and warm ups are also acceptable If a student is missing any item, for example their athletic shoes, they are not considered dressed out and will receive a grade deduction. Students who are not dressed out WILL be required to participate in the lesson in accordance with the teacher’s instructions.

8 + HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT All Students will have a daily required homework assignment. Daily Homework Assignment Bring a complete set of PE appropriate clothes/shoes to class every day. Failure to do your homework will result in lunch detention

9 + Dress Out requirements: BE PREPARED TO DRESS OUT FOR PE EVERY DAY DURING THE SEMESTER.

10 + Dress out Policy Penalties: 1st offense non dress - warning and loss of points, parent contact 2nd offense non dress - loss of points, parent contact, homework detention 3rd offense non dress or more - loss of points, parent contact, homework detention and administration intervention

11 + Dress out Procedures: Students will have 10 minutes to dress out and report to their roll call position. Students will have 10 minutes at the end of class to dress in to their school clothes. Students must wait in the gym for a supervising teacher to escort them to the gym lobby for dismissal. Students who leave before the dismissal bell without permission will be given a referral for cutting class. Students will not be allowed into the locker rooms during the class. Students should make sure there personal belongings are put away and secured before leaving.

12 + Students are to report directly to their assigned exercise position once they have changed into their PE clothes.

13 + Early Dismissal: *Very Important* Students who must leave early during class and have an early release form must still dress out if they are going to be present for at least half of the class period. Because students ARE NOT allowed to go back into the locker room during the class period, they MUST take all of their possessions with them during class. You must inform the teacher at the beginning of class if you are signing out early during the class.

14 + Participation requirements: Doctor’s/Parent’s notes: Students bringing a doctor’s/parent’s excuse will be required to complete a written assignment related to the activities/concepts being taught in class. The student may be required to take observation notes on the day’s lesson which will be collected at the end of the period and graded. Students not dressed out or participating unexcused: Must participate in the lesson in accordance with the teacher’s instructions. Students not dressed out who are disrupting class will be removed by administration.

15 + Locks and Lockers: Bring in a lock to lock your possessions in a locker during class. If you do not have a lock and need to lock up your possessions, see your teacher. Your teacher would be glad to lock your valuables in their office.

16 + Locks and Lockers: WE STILL STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT STUDENTS NOT BRING VALUABLE ITEMS DOWN TO THE GYM AREA.

17 + Important Behavior Expectations: No food, gum or drinks are allowed in the gym or locker rooms. (Students may bring bottled water only to class.)

18 + Important Behavior Expectations: Students are to report directly to their assigned exercise position once they have changed into their PE clothes. Failure to do so will be considered insubordinate behavior which will result in disciplinary action as well as point deductions from their grade.

19 + Cutting Class Students who leave the gym/field/classroom during class without permission will be considered cutting class, requardless of where they went or how long or short a period of time they were gone for.

20 + Important Behavior Expectations: No horseplay, wrestling, climbing on mats/bleachers, or other unauthorized behavior will be tolerated.

21 + Important Behavior Expectations: Show respect for school property. Show respect and consideration for others and their property

22 + Important Behavior Expectations: Students are NOT permitted to touch any equipment until instructed to do so by the teacher.

23 + Important Behavior Expectations: Jewelry such as long necklaces, ear rings, bracelets, etc. are not permitted due to safety reasons

24 + Important Behavior Expectations: All electronic devices are prohibited in class.

25 + Important Behavior Expectations: Failure to comply with any of the behavioral expectations will result in disciplinary action and loss of points from your grade.

26 + Attendance/Administrative Procedures: Do NOT be absent. Do NOT be tardy to class. Do NOT be tardy to warm ups. You will have 10 minutes to dress out and be in your assigned seat/exercise position. Loss of points Referral will result for repeat offenders

27 + Grading System: Dressing Out and Participation/Performance 70% Written Classwork/Homework assignments/Projects15% Tests 15% Final Exam25% (See exemption policy in student handbook)

28 + Health & PE I = A Come to class prepared Be on time. Dress out every day. Follow all instructions. Turn in all class work on time. See the teacher for your make up work if you have been absent. Put forth 100% effort 100% of the time.
