Erasmus plus 2016-2019: “Integration of young refugees” - Using mobile devices leading to better language acquisition and relevant career guidance

Agenda the project idea our two-tier approach: - transnational project meetings, - learning package, - workflow, - training activities examples of dissemination goals of this meeting my very personal conclusion so far

The project idea: 4 aspects Integration of young refugees Using mobile devices leading to better language acquisition and relevant career guidance

Our approach: following two tiers tier 1: using a questionnaire as a data basis to create a learning package consisting of a language package a career package tier 2: bringing people together at six training activities C1-C6

4 transnational project meetings M1-M4 M1: 4-7 October 2016: Karlsruhe/Germany getting to know each other, getting started M2: 18-21 September 2017: Falun Borlänge/Sweden regional development M3: 25-28 June 2018: Bilbao/Spain inclusive education M4: 3-7 June 2019: Istanbul/Turkey collecting results, international final dissemination conference

4 transnational project meetings M1-M4 questionnaire: results, interpretation, improvement, learning package, „homework“ steering group, more or less a fixed team few people, at least one per partner short, usually 3 days project organization: finance, dates, evaluation, reporting, …

How about YouRNI‘s learning package How about YouRNI‘s learning package? The learning package is made up of two parts: part 1: language package - list of criteria for evaluating apps (fixed) - suggested apps for language learning (adjustable in any country) part 2: career package - set of questions for teachers about how to address career guidance in class (fixed) - suggested links to learn about the job market (adjustable in any country)

How about YouRNI‘s learning package? - timeline - both parts will be presented on YouRNI‘s next Skype conference on June 22nd 2017, 2pm team Germany sends examples during the summer break: each country will adapt the package on M2: Sweden, 9/2017: presentation of the (various national) packages September 2017 – May 2018: use and evaluation of the package in class on M3: Bilbao, June 2018: results presented

Implementation in the classroom Project workflow 3 years 1st year 2nd year 3rd year Technical infrastructure Needs analysis (methodic, didactic) Drawing up concept and material Implementation in the classroom Evaluation

6 training activities: 5 days, interested individuals C1: Bilbao/Spain (24-27 May 2017): English as the European lingua franca for young refugees in order to participate actively in European politics and develop a better understanding of European common values; C2: Bilbao/Spain (29 May-2 June 2017): examining and applying didactics of L2 acquisition using integration training as a means; C3: Linz/Austria (19-23 June 2017): reviewing media and materials for young refugees in German-speaking countries; C4: Veneto/Italy (23-27 October 2017): using educational biographies and Europass as a tool for career guidance to improve employability of young refugees; C5: Zug/Switzerland or Karlsruhe/Germany (4-8 June 2018): designing a teacher training course for German as a Second Language, using ECTS as a European instrument in state-controlled teacher training; C6: Karlsruhe/Germany (3-7 December 2018): developing a course on vocational language training for young refugees fostering intercultural competence;

dissemination so far: our website: YouRNI.EU YouRNI-News: 1,2,3… Brussels, December 2016 Didacta, January 2017 Logo contest, July 2017 Summer Academy, July 2017 Seminar Journal: 2+7/2017 Project UASM-Coach: Unaccompanied and Separated Minors Coach ???

Our new logo

award ceremony Logo-Contest July 2017 winning team: Theodor-Frey-Schule, Eberbach/Germany

goals of this meeting looking back: What did we do? having a short rest: Where are we now? looking ahead: next steps re-adjust things finance, reporting, evaluations, dates … new partners, new names … UASM/Belgium, Andreas, Sandra … preparing questionnaire Q2 in April 2018 transparency: What would YOU like to know, to look at, to work on, to ask?

My very personal conclusion so far

What I enjoyed a lot your reactions and support in 12/2016 Spanish flexibility and hospitality Austrian proper planning Swedish professionality YouRNI as a team – getting to know you! working together with Annette and Ute! support of our National Agency learning from our evaluation

Where I see room for improvement … low number of questionnaires and feedback from some countries poor feedback for initiatives like Logo-contest danger of loosing project focus on refugees, career guidance, … not attending a (Skype) conference at very short notice no full attendance during meetings

Thanks your for your attention
