1 Strengthening Nordic-Baltic educational cooperation in development of module “Supervision in social work” Dr. Jolanta Pivoriene Vice dean for projects and international relations Faculty of Social Policy Mykolas Romeris university

2 The main purpose of the project develop module “Supervision in social work and other helping professions” which contribute to raising the quality of social work in Nordic-Baltic countries by linking research, professional practice and theory in supervision

3 Rationale of the project Interdisciplinary multicultural teams will: develop (if there is no in the country) update (if it is already exist) model of field practice supervision

4 Innovative aspect of the project The new module will enhance the quality and reinforce the Nordic-Baltic dimension of higher education in social work supervision by encouraging transnational cooperation between universities, strengthening European mobility and improving the transparency and full academic recognition of studies and social work qualifications throughout the European Union

5 Project duration 2 years, financed for the first year 17 09 2008-01 10 2009 Stages: preparation development of conception and plan of module development of study subjects/courses development the plan for exploitation of results promotion, awareness rising and dissemination

6 Timeline of the project During the project two meetings per year in different countries and on- line communication in between the meetings are foreseen kick off preparatory meeting in Vilnius will be followed by discussions on-line during the first seminar-meeting in Goteborg the outcomes of the first development stage (conception of the CD module) will be summarized and the works of the second development stage (study subjects) will start on-line discussions will help to ensure quality of the outcomes which will be summarized during the second seminar-meeting in Riga all the project will end with the conference in Vilnius for short term and long term target groups as well as for other stakeholders on national and international level

7 Cooperation model Close cooperation and partnership is crucial and therefore ongoing communication and cooperation strategy is developed The design of the program seeks to maximize each partner’s participation and willingness to invest and enrich the development of the program as well as to take part in exploitation of results, dissemination, management and quality assurance activities During project implementation shared responsibility and democratic participation of all partners are emphasized

9 Development of conception and plan of module from kick-off meeting till the 1 st seminar The kick-off meeting of 10 persons for 2 working days (in total – 4 days with arrival/departure) at Mykolas Romeris university (Vilnius, Lithuania) in November, 2008 During the meeting: set up overall organizational framework discuss the study regulations and social work curriculum at every partners‘ University identify common strategy's elements/components draft the design of the module, emphasizing interconnection of theory, field practice and scientific work draft the structure and outline content of the courses/subjects, including expected skills and competencies define teaching methods/didactics, including assessment criteria discuss project and program organization, management procedures, monitoring process and criteria, quality assurance strategy and other related issues

10 Development of conception and plan of module from kick-off meeting till the 1 st seminar After the preparatory meeting partners: will have the draft version of the conception of the module, which already includes and outlines the subjects will have specific tasks in study/plan curriculum development

11 Development of study subjects/courses from the 1 st till the 2 nd seminar The first seminar of 10 persons for 2 working days (in total – 4 days with arrival/departure) at Goteborg University (Goteborg, Sweden) in April, 2009 During the seminar: ratify the final module plan/curriculum, which includes conception and study plan discuss in depth development of study subjects/courses

12 Development of study subjects/courses from the 1 st till the 2 nd seminar Study subjects fall into two parts: already existing in the partners’ study programs, they have to be revised, updated and adopted to the agreed conception of module plan/curriculum new ones Subjects have to be created by international teachers team, e.g. each partner institution will lead development of one subject and assign one teacher for developing other subjects. This organization will add strong European Nordic-Baltic dimension for the study subjects For quality assurance all study subjects (adopted and new developed) have to be approved by official bodies at partners’ institution (by units which implements study program, Boards of Faculty and University units (Directorates).

13 Development the plan for exploitation of results, promotion, awareness rising and dissemination From the 2 nd seminar till the final conference The seminar of 10 persons for 2 working days (in total –4 days with arrival/departure) at University of Latvia (Ryga, Latvia) in November, 2009 During the seminar: ratify subjects and compose compendium (for students and teachers needs), which will be used in study programme implementation process (next application) start promotion and awareness rising process in order to promote the developed module and to raise awareness of supervision issues in higher education and field practice present and market the developed module finalize evaluation process continue dissemination

14 Development the plan for exploitation of results promotion, awareness rising and dissemination The final conference The conference for 100 persons for 1 working day at Mykolas Romeris university (Vilnius, Lithuania) in April, 2010 It will be followed by 1 day project staff last meeting During the conference : summarize the experience and outputs of the project share experience, discuss challenges and ways to the future find the new ways for promoting supervision in social work and (possible) other professions rise public awareness of the issue under study

15 Development the plan for exploitation of results promotion, awareness rising and dissemination Staff meeting During staff meeting: evaluate the project and partnership foreseen further dissemination activities foreseen strategy for implementation of the developed module discuss the next NordplusHE application for module implementation

16 Outcomes of the project 3 meetings and 1 conference - exchange of the experience, development of module, dissemination, promotion and awareness rising compendium (study programme, conception, study plan, study subjects/course materials) next application for module implementation marketing package (flyers, etc.) webpage articles (at least one article per partner)

17 Dissemination strategy Dissemination of information, results and outputs of the project will be done: at national and international levels, partners are responsible for dissemination on national level, dissemination on international level will be done by shared responsibility of all partners for short and long term targets groups governmental, educational and field practice placements levels

18 Dissemination activities develop, publish and disseminate marketing package create webpage disseminate information via mass media publish scientific articles organize meetings and discussions for promoting and awareness rising

19 Monitoring and evaluation Evaluation process and criteria (for content, didactic and organization) will be discussed in depth during kick-off meeting Evaluation of the partnership will be done using pretest-postest research design emphasizing expectations, responsibilities, achieved results and future cooperation Study Quality Assurance Group and Erasmus Committee at MRU, related Units at all partners institutions, will monitor the whole process of the project from its beginning (approval of application) till its end (final reports) Evaluation will be used as bases for continuation of the project for the subsequent years

20 Reporting Reporting will be done on ARS system in coordination of applicant organization by shared responsibility of the partners
