Key Vocabulary Monotheistic: the belief in only one God. Abraham: the founder of Judaism and monotheism. Salvation: the end goal for all Christians, Jews and Muslims. Enter into Heaven. Muhammad: the founder of Islam and the prophet of Allah. 5 Pillars: the 5 duties required by all Muslims.

Warm Up Can you explain the purpose of the Ten Commandments?

Judaism Became the first monotheistic (one god) religion. From no base religion. God is named Yahweh. Abraham made the “father” of Hebrew people. Their sacred texts are known as the Torah First five books of the Hebrew bible Old Testament

Beliefs in Judaism Yahweh looked after the Hebrews because Abraham promised to obey him in return for protection of himself & his descendants. This is known as a covenant. The Messiah has not come. Jesus is a Prophet. Salvation is achieved through Faith.

The Exodus Hebrews fled Egypt in 1200/1300 BC aka “the Exodus” and were led by Moses. We now remember this as Passover. Moses spoke with God on Mt. Sinai & received the 10 Commandments. Became a new covenant. The basis of civil & religious laws of Judaism. Kosher Laws.

Assessment Prompt 1 List five facts you have learned about Judaism.

Christianity Monotheistic with a singular God, Jehovah. Jesus Christ The Son of God Apostles Finds its base in Judaism.

Christian Beliefs Jesus is the Messiah, or savior. The resurrection of Jesus is proof of this. Salvation reached through faith. The Christian God is loving and equal.

Follow the Ten Commandments. The sacred text of Christianity is the Bible. Combines the two section: The Old Testament sacred to Judaism. The New Testament which are Jesus’s teachings as recorded by the Apostles.

Assessment Prompt 2 What is the significance of the Christian Bible?

Islam Monotheistic religion with a god known as Allah. Finds a base through Judaism & Christianity. Believe that Allah spoke to the Prophet Muhammad through the voice of the angel Gabriel. Muhammad considered to be the founder. Islam means “submission to the will of Allah.” Muslim means “one who has submitted.”

Islamic Beliefs Muhammad is last and greatest Prophet of Allah. Jesus is a Prophet. All followers of Allah are equal. Salvation reached through faith. Ka’aba: First monotheistic temple.

The Qur’an is the sacred text of Islam. Islam teaches that there is good & evil. All believers must carry out five duties. These are called the Five Pillars of Islam.

The Five Pillars of Islam Hajj (Pilgrimage): all who are financially able must travel to Mecca at least once on what is known as the Hajj Fast: done during Ramadan Faith Prayer: 5 times a day facing Mecca Alms/Charity: giving money to the poor through a special religious tax
