Sonia Pawlowicz Embrace Foundation for Affordable Housing Clubs Sonia Pawlowicz Embrace Foundation for Affordable Housing

The BIG Picture: Impacting your kids Today we are talking about Club organization, scheduling and different club ideas, but it will not apply to all! So I want you to think about the big picture! As RS Coordinators we have great impact! Whether we do crafts or homework … We all have different programs, BUT we all have the power to: Inspire Impact Goals for clubs = expand that impact Question: How can you use your power to impact the and inspire the kids you work with?

Why do we need clubs? Cooking Club Example Clubs can introduce kids to new activities that are geared towards the advancement and exploration outside of the classroom. Big picture = Exploring & Learning Cooking Club Example

How do I make time for clubs? I don’t have time for clubs…YES YOU DO! Snack/Circle Time 2:30pm-3:10pm Taste it Tuesday! Bell pepper and Greek yogurt dip Word of the Week Homework Hour 3:10pm-4:10pm Tutoring/No Homework Routine Club 4:10-4:50pm Exercise for kids Clean Up 4:50pm-5:00pm Jobs and earn points through the incentive program

How do I organize a club? Here are a few successful ideas: by age, grade, maturity level, or gender After or during after school program

Sample Book Club Goals: To show the kids they can have fun reading after school Organization: Kids at reading ages can sign up for the book club that will take place every Monday for 1 month Session 1 Snack: Grapes and cheese Discussion: Book predictions Activity: Shop library & create a library card to checkout a book Session 2 Snack: Hummus and carrots Discussion: Story time about our books Activity: Create a book mark with the theme of the book in mind Session 3 Snack: Dried apples and yogurt Activity: Start and choose project for final session Session 4 Snack- None Activity: Make our own healthy pizza party!

The Big Picture for Clubs = Exploring & Learning Book Club: Encourage to read, find support, gain confidence in reading aloud, improve speaking skills through discussions/ story time Mad Science Club: explore experiments and reactions. Improve basic knowledge of science Exercise Club: healthy lifestyle, what goes along with exercise? Lego Builders: creativity, imagination, etc. Music Club: instruments, listening, Sports: How to play, learning rules, skills Tech Club: typing, coding, graphic design, taking apart an old computer Cooking: Skills, healthy recipes, manners, table setting
