Welcome to Lake Minneola High School Home of the Hawks!

Administration Team  Principal Linda Shepherd “Mama Hawk”  Assistant Principals  Devon Cole  Rhonda Boykin  Joe Frana  Cyndi Page  Roger Rice  Guidance  Gina Paul  Jill Fornoles  Robyn Campos  Susan Theobald  Christine DiDonna

Hawks’ Creed  Hawks are:  Honorable  Academically Focused  Wise  Kind Hearted  Successful

LMHS Vision Statement  Lake Minneola is a student-centered school working together to create a foundation of positive relationships and technological expertise that will result in high academic performance and real world success.

Are YOU ready for LMHS?  Our mission is to have YOU graduate from high school ready for college, technical school, or meaningful employment. Are you ready for the challenge of high school?

 Tougher Classes  More homework  Waking up EARLY!  Peer Pressure  More independence  Increased responsibility  Countless opportunities for growth

Review your Grade Level Course Requirements  English 1 or English I Honors  Algebra 1 or Geometry  Earth Space Science, Earth Space Science Honors or Biology Honors  No Social Studies Requirement  AP Human Geography is available as an elective (Level 3 or higher on FSA Reading).  HOPE (Health and PE)  Other electives which MAY include Intensive Reading/Intensive Math

What makes a typical day?  7 Period Day  7 classes per day  All classes will last all year (like a middle school schedule)  Early bird bell schedule  First bell at 7:15

How important is it to earn credits?  It is ESSENTIAL to success!  Credits determine what grade you are in  Credits determine whether or not you may progress to the next level of classes  Credits determine if you may take dual enrollment classes at LSCC  Credits determine whether or not you will graduate

How important is my GPA?  Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is the second half of graduation  You must have at least a 2.0 weighted cumulative GPA to graduate  Every class you take counts – including HS credits taken in middle school  Every D (1 point) or F (0 points) reduces your GPA and hurts your chance for a successful graduation  Honors and AP classes count more than regular!

Review Your Graduation Requirements  By graduation, incoming 9 th graders must have…  24 total credits  4 English credits  4 Math credits including Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II  3 Rigorous Science credits including Biology  3 Social Studies credits including World and US History as well as Government and Economics  1 PE credit (HOPE)  1 PF/PA/Fine art credit

More Graduation Requirements  At least ONE online course as part of the 24 credit total  Pass 10 th grade FSA Reading  Pass End of Course exams for Algebra, Geometry, and Biology  Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or better

Tools for Success at LMHS  Come to school every day prepared to give 100% effort  Follow all school expectations for dress code, behavior, and participation in class  Select classes that challenge you to achieve your dreams

Get Involved!  Get involved in school activities such as sports, clubs, academic, and service organizations

What is my focus now?  Take the LMHS course flyer home to read.  Talk with your parent/guardian to determine what classes will take your education in the right direction for you.  Ask your middle school academic teachers to help identify the core classes best suited for you.

Will I Get the Courses I Request?  The master schedule in a high school is based on the requests of the students. Choose carefully!  The Guidance Department makes every effort to place students in the classes they choose, but selections cannot be promised or guaranteed.  All classes must meet minimum and maximum class sizes – no classes too small or too big.
