1 Middle School Course Selection
For current 8th grade students February 10, 2014

2 How to be successful: Attendance: be in school and be on time
Agenda: keep track of assignments Do your homework Be organized Get involved: HHS offers a variety of clubs, activities and sports

3 Student Resources: Advisory Teacher, School Counselor, and Principal will follow students for all four years of high school

4 Block Scheduling: Four 85 minute blocks, two 18 week semesters/four 9 week quarters Honors courses vs. Academic courses English and History same semester Math and Science same semester

5 Graduation Requirements:
26.5 credits 4.0 credits in English, 4.0 credits in History, 4.0 credits in Math, 4.0 credits in Science, 1.5 credits in PE, 2.0 credits in the Arts and Humanities and 7.0 elective credits. Recommended: 2.0 – 4.0 credits of World Language Passing of Keystone Exams is a state requirement for graduation

6 Electives The Course Selection Guide is filled with electives in many subject areas Please check prerequisites before scheduling electives Requesting an elective does not guarantee that the student will receive the elective

7 Please Note A minimum of 6.5 credits are required to be scheduled for each student A maximum of 8.0 credits can be scheduled* *Some music students enrolled in sectionals may be over the 8.0 limit
