13 How important is it to earn credits?
It is ESSENTIAL to success! Credits determine what grade you are in. Credits determine whether or not you may progress to the next level of classes. Credits/GPA and Testing determine if you may take dual enrollment classes at LSCC. Credits GPA and Testing determine whether or not you will graduate.

14 How important is my GPA? Your Grade Point Average (GPA) is the second half of graduation You must have at least a 2.0 unweighted cumulative GPA to graduate. Every class you take counts including HS credits taken in middle school. Every D (1 point) or F (0 points) reduces your GPA and hurts your chance for a successful graduation. Honors and AP classes count more than regular!

15 Know Your Graduation Requirements
By graduation, students must have… 24 total credits 4 English credits 4 Math credits Including Algebra I, and Geometry 3 Rigorous Science credits including Biology

16 Know Your Graduation Requirements
3 Social Studies credits including World and US History as well as Government (.5 credit) and Economics (.5 credit) 1 credit of HOPE (different from PE) PE (Sports or Weight Lifting) 1 PF/PA=Performing/Fine/Practical Art credit

17 Know Your Graduation Requirements
At least ONE online course as part of the 24 credit total (HOPE at LMHS counts) Pass 10th grade FSA Reading, 351 Pass End of Course exams for Algebra, 399 (or concordant exam) Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0 or better

21 LSSC Dual Enrollment QUALIFED TEST SCORES ARE:
Reading, Writing, and Math PERT Reading (106) Writing (103) Math (114) ACT Reading (19) Writing (17) Math (19) SAT Reading/ Writing (440) Math (440) Must be a junior or senior (under revision)

22 Dual Enrollment VS AP Classes
AP= Counselors and parents can view your grades. Not for DE. Counselors receive only the final grades. AP teachers can call your parents to inform them that you are doing poorly. DE=will be treated as an adult college student not as minor. (Teachers cannot speak with parents per FERPA laws) Counselors support both programs but YOU must be ready to do DE.

23 Dual Enrollment VS AP Classes
LSSC CLASSES ARE WORTH 6.0 GPA JUST LIKE AP CLASSES. Both can earn you college credits however in an AP class a student can earn multiple credits depending on how they score on their exam. Earning 4 or 5 or higher in 1 AP exam can result to 6 college credits. For example, if you pass AP Lang with a 4 or 5, you will skip ENC 1101 and Make sure that you give the college a copy of your AP scores so they can add the credits on your transcript. You are building your college transcript, more permanent than HS. DE grades will be placed in your permanent college transcript, while AP is only on your high school transcript. Earning C or lower at the college can prevent you from getting accepted to some universities. Some universities (Private/Ivy League) might not accept credits earned at a state college.

24 Course Request Information
1. Talk with your parent/guardian to determine what classes will take your education in the right direction for you. 2. Write down on the practice form (given to middle schools) courses that you would like to take next year. 3. We have teachers, students and counselors in the cafeteria to help you. 4. MUST Return your GREEN form today.

25 Will I Get the Courses I Request?
The master schedule in a high school is based on the requests of the students. Choose carefully! THIS IS A REQUEST ONLY! The Guidance Department makes every effort to place students in the classes they choose, but selections cannot be promised or guaranteed. All classes must meet minimum and maximum class sizes – no classes too small or too big.

26 Additional Information
Foreign Language is NOT available for freshmen unless in the Health Science Collegiate Academy. All other students will have chance to request Foreign Language in 10th or 11th grade due to limited space. If your student applied for the Health Science Collegiate Academy, Dr. Ryan from Lake Sumter will contact Ms. Paul at LMHS to who will work on a specific schedule for your student. If your student takes English Honors and AP Human Geography, please check the LMHS website for summer reading requirements.
