1 Course Selection Class of 2022

2 WHAT’S DIFFERENT AT HIGH SCHOOL
48 minutes per block, 8 periods per day FY = full year (1 credit) S = semester ½ year (.50 credit) Students can earn 8 credits per year. No lunch It is recommended that Freshmen schedule a lunch (no credit) All Freshmen need to have a minimum of 6 credits

3 Know the Lingo… Grade Point Average (GPA). A Cumulative Grade Point Average is a calculation of the average of all of a student's grades for all semesters and courses completed up to a given academic term. The GPA can be used by potential employers or further post-secondary institutions to assess and compare applicants. Career and Technical Education (CTE) . These courses are offered at Manchester School of Technology (MST) and Alvirne as well as Londonderry High School.

5 Levels AP Credit and/or advanced standing in certain course sequences that colleges may offer to high school students who have taken high level courses and passed certain exams. Honors High School courses with extensive, independent work outside of the classroom. CP College Prep courses requiring self directed learning

6 Homework Expectations
The following can be expected for homework depending upon the level of the course requested. Advanced Placement pages Honors – 20 pages CP A – 10-15 CP B – 10-15 Standard – 5-10

7 Freshman Required Courses
English - 1 credit World History- 1 credit Science – Freshmen Science- 1 Credit Math – 1 Credit Physical Education - ½ Credit Health ½ Credit Electives – 2-3 Credits

8 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
4 English - Every year a student is in school 4 Math (including Algebra 1) Every year a student is in school 2 Sciences (1 Biological/1 Physical) 3 Social Studies (1 World History, 1 U.S. History, .5 Economics, .5 Civics) .5 Health 1 Physical Education .5 Area of Computers .5 Area of Art 8.5 Electives

9 MATH Math is sequential and, as a result, certain classes need to be taken in order. Pay attention to the teacher recommendations on the course selection page Pre- Algebra Algebra 1 Algebra 2 Geometry

10 WORLD LANGUAGE World Language is NOT required to graduate from Londonderry High. Most colleges do require 3-4 years of a single World Language. Placement in a World Language should be based on the teacher recommendation. Student who have NEVER taken a language and want to, should start with level 1 of the chosen language. (ex: Spanish 1 )

11 Physical Education All freshmen will be required to take PE and Health. The class is called Physical Education 1, it is a ½ credit class. Health is a ½ credit class as well. Students can take Wellness for the 1.0 credit. This will cover the Physical Education 1 and Health requirement.

12 Electives There are a number of electives…NOW is the time to look them over carefully to select some of the many choices. Due to the nature of scheduling there may be limited spaces available. The following are the areas in which there are electives offered to Freshmen: Family & Consumer Science Art Business Music Computer Science World Language

13 New Hampshire Scholars
Core Course of Study to be a NH scholar: 4 English Courses 4 Math Courses- Algebra 1& 2, Geometry or an additional advanced math class. 3 Science Courses- Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, AP Environmental Science 3.5 Social Studies Courses- (World History, Economics, Civics, US History and one social studies elective. 2 World Language Courses (in the same language)
