Questionnaire Analysis

Our initial questions were personal analytics; the majority of people that answered our questionnaire were teenagers/young adults aged We concluded that this age group were the most likely to spend time watching movies as opposed to their elder and younger counterparts. There was an equal ratio of male to female (3:3) as well as ‘other’ and ‘prefer not to say’, it goes without saying film isn’t specific to a certain gender therefore this data would not necessarily be useful for our overall main task.

When asked about favourite genre, the most popular was ‘biopic’. This result surprised us as we associated this genre to be popular with an older age range. Comedy followed with 20% of our interviewees favouring it. The prospect of basing our main task on real-life events intrigued us following this discovery.

The least popular genre among our audience was, not by surprise, horror. Half of our audience agreed on horror being their least favourite genre. This prompted us to avoid horror for our main task.

The most common number of films viewed was between 3-5. As the majority of our audience were aged 14-21, this average didn’t surprise us.

When asking about favourite movies, they varied greatly in genre which demonstrated how subjective they can be. The most popular movie was Mean Girls, a comedy popular amongst teenagers and young adults. This inspired us to incorporate comedic elements into our final task.

The most common medium through watching films for our audience was through ‘internet’ whether this be through Netflix, or any movie subscription service, we deduced that due to the enhancement of the internet, movies are more prevalent therefore easier to access. In addition to this, it’s cheaper than paying to view a movie at the cinema for example. One of the best ways to raise profile for a film, we agreed, is through the internet i.e YouTube

A-List actors as well as young aspiring actors were amongst the results our audience had given. Robert Downey Jr., an A List actor was the most popular in this question namely due to his large role in many films during his younger years.

Martin Scorsese, director of an array of successful films including Hugo, Wolf of Wall Street and Goodfellas was the most favourable director.

40% of our audience favour narrative when watching a trailer; for this reason we decided to focus primarily on narrative for our main task.
